When you receive this book, find a comfortable spot, and just let yourself live life with Richard, Keri, Jenna and Mary as they become close friends and celebrate the season of Christmas together. Help Richard as he searches for the meaning of the Christmas box, explores the source of the mysterious music and ponders Mary's question "what was the first Christmas gift?"
And then, every Christmas after you read the Christmas Box, you will remember the story -- and be glad you read it.
A quote from the beginning of the story, The Christmas Box
"Whatever the reason, I find that with each passing Christmas the story of the Christmas Box is told less and needed more. So I record it now for all future generations to accept or dismiss as seems them good. As for me, I believe. And it is, after all, my story."

Richard Paul Evans's official site - The King of Christmas Fiction shares his passions with his readers. This web site itself is a delightful read. You can try out the trivia questions about the author, sign up for his mailing list and maybe win a free signed copy of one of his books, start a Christmas Box group of your own, give to the Christmas Box Lifestart Initiative, or see a photo of the angel statue and learn more about it. You can even download a Discussion Guide for this book.
Richard's dreams begin....and the mystery....
"I don't recall the exact night when the dreams began. The angel dreams. It should be stated that I am a believer in angels, though not the picture-book kind with wings and harps. Such angelic accoutrements seemed as nonsensical to me as devils sporting horns and carrying pitchforks. To me, angel wings are merely symbolic of their role as divine messengers."
Richard Paul Evans on Wikipedia
Evans graduated from Cottonwood High School in Salt Lake City. He graduated with a B.A. degree from the University of Utah in 1984. While working as an advertising executive he wrote a Christmas story for his children. Unable to find a publisher or an agent, he self-published the work in 1993 as a paperback novella entitled The Christmas Box. He distributed it to book stores in his community.
The book became a local bestseller, prompting Evans to publish the book nationally. The next year The Christmas Box hit #2 on the New York Times bestseller list, inciting an auction for the publishing rights among the world's top publishing houses. Evans signed a publishing deal with Simon & Schuster, who paid Evans $4.2 million in an advance. Released in hardcover in 1995, The Christmas Box became the first book to simultaneously reach the number-one position on the New York Times bestseller list for both paperback and hardcover editions. That same year, the book was made into a television movie of the same title, starring Richard Thomas and Maureen O'Hara.
Richard Paul Evans (born October 11, 1962 in Salt Lake City, Utah) is an American author.
And as you finish the book, you will agree with Richard, as he says,
"And as long as the earth lives, and longer, that message will never die. Though the cold winds of life may put frost on the heart of many, that message alone will shelter the heart from life's storms. And for me, as long as I live, the magic inside the Christmas Box will never die.
It never will."

The Christmas Box on DVD
The Christmas Box / Timepiece
Amazon Price: (as of 01/05/2010)![]()
Amazon Review - Hallmark's warm, 1995 made-for-television movie The Christmas Box and its darker, 1996 prequel, Timepiece, are logically and delightfully paired in this DVD package. In the former, Richard Thomas plays Richard, a ski-shop owner consumed with work and unhappy about his family's insistence on sharing a lonely mansion with Mary, an icy, humorless widow (Maureen O'Hara). While Richard's wife and child develop loving ties with Mary, he suffers recurring dreams and grows convinced the house is haunted by a tragedy from the old woman's past. Timepiece jumps ahead 16 years from the resolution of that story, then takes us back to the 1940s, when Mary (Naomi Watts) and her late husband, David (Kevin Kilner), a wealthy arms supplier to America's war effort, marry and endure both a bogus murder trial and a crushing family loss. While it's wonderful to see O'Hara, Timepiece proves the grittier, more interesting film, helped mightily by a cast including James Earl Jones and Ellen Burstyn. --Tom Keogh

- What a fabulous lens. I love your colors. I'm lensrolling it to my Maureen O'Hara lens. As you mentioned, she and Richard Thomas starred in the movie The Christmas Box. 5*s and favored.

- As I read the lens, I kept thinking, "I want to read that book. I've seen that book. I think I have that book!" So I jumped up and went to the Holiday shelf and there it was. Thanks Joan for letting me know what I was missing by letting it collect dust on the shelf.

- Your lens gives me the desire to read this book.
Also, I agree with bethd821 that the black boxes should go.
It should be green or red or maybe some clipart Christmasy.

- Haven't read the story, but your lens has provided the incentive for me to do so. I like Cardall's song commissioned by Evans for the story... makes me wish I could play the piano. Well done!

- I'm going to have to read this book. The blurbs you used from the book are quite enticing, especially the one about angels. I think I could follow this better if I had read the book. I found the black backgrounds somewhat distracting. They took away from the other material. Maybe use more Christmas-y colors. It did make me want to read the book, though.
