Know When to Quit and When to Stick

Seth Godin, marketing genius and founder of this wonderful place we call Squidoo, launched his new book, The Dip this year.

Billed as "A Little Book that Teaches You When to Quit and When to Stick," it's a dream for marketers short on time and hungry for powerful information that changes the way they do business.

In The Dip, Seth doesn't preach that you should "never give up."  In fact, he highlights when and why it's okay to quit sometimes.  Traditionally, we think of power players as machines - people adhering to the Little that Could motto - they never give up.

Smart marketers do indeed quit when the time is right, but they know when to stay the path and bust through obstacles hindering their progress.

The Short, Big, Profitable Head

You're probably sick to deathof hearing about the long tail. Well Seth's going to introduce you to the short, big, profitable head - numero uno, the head honcho, #1.

With marketers, you don't have to be the best marketer on the web. That would be hard to prove, anyway.

But you can be best in your niche. Being the best takes work, and to get there, you're going to hit a bunch of dips.

This is where Seth teaches you whether you have what it takes to drive right over the dips and become a leader or stop the car, ask for directions, and find another path to your success.

Tiffany Dow's Dip

I was all aflutter when I got my first work-at-home opportunity doing data entry for my husband's office. The glamour quickly faded and I was searching for another way to earn money at home.

After finding Elance and launching a profitable ghostwriting career, I fell into a dip that lasted 6 years. Six years!

I was stuck in the cul-de-sac, as Seth calls it, spinning my wheels going nowhere. Yes, I had price increases for my services, but when I look at my income now compared to my highest rates as a ghostwriter, there's no comparison.

Finally, after watching The Secret for one of my client's new eBooks, I got the traction I needed to put the pedal to the metal and get out of my Dip and back on the path to success.

I joined the Warrior Forum, branded myself a marketer, and within weeks created my first infoproduct - about Squidoo of all things!

I still hit dips every once in awhile, but now I know how to navigate them. I know when to quit something that isn't working (profitable) and I know when to push my limits and go with something totally new, like I did with my latest Twitter Traffic eBook.

I want to be #1 in my niche of social networking for marketers. I feel innovative and secure in my ability to size up a web 2.0 site for its marketing potential and ease of use for the masses.
