So Just What Is A Flugelhorn Anyways?
I've been familiar with the flugelhorn ever since my High School music teacher played a solo on it along with the school Jazz Band. It had such a warm, full, throaty sound that filled out the piece perfectly.
One of my sons plays the trumpet and I'd love to see him pick up the flugelhorn one day and give it a try.
A little about the flugelhorn:
- It is pitched in Bb like a trumpet, but has a larger bore
- It usually has three valves, but some have a 4th
- It's tone is darker and richer than a trumpet, perfect for Jazz in my opinion
- Chuck Mangione is one of the best known flugelhorn players
