World change starts with educated children.

Does Harry Die in Book 7?

Jo Rowling's latest answer

In a recent interview on the British talk show Richard and Judy, Jo Rowling revealed that two characters will die in the last Harry Potter book. When asked if they were significant she said, "We are dealing with pure evil! So they don't target the extras, do they?"

Let the speculation begin!

They also asked, indirectly, whether Harry is one of the deaths. Jo's response was, "I've never been tempted to kill him off before the end of Book 7 because I've always planned seven books; that's where I want to - I want to finish on seven books." (Emphasis added.) Was that a yes or a no?

As usual, Jo's answers leave us with additional questions. Now see what Daniel Radcliffe has said about on the subject. . .

Daniel Radcliffe Interview

This ShowBiz Tonight interview aired during the promotional campaign for The Goblet of Fire DVD. Daniel answers questions about the darker aspects of the movies, dating, and growing up on the set.

The discussion about Harry's ultimate fate starts about six minutes into the interview. Daniel also talks about how the British press, thinking he had some inside knowledge, reacted to his theory.

After watching the interview please tell me what you think.

Do you think Harry will die?

Now that you've read Jo's answer and watched Daniel's interview. What do you think?

Severus Snape: The Good, the Bad and the Bizarre

Acciobrain Homepage

My newest lens is all about Professor Snape and his loyalties. There are links to various essays and editorials. You can vote these links up or down. You can also add links to other theories.

The essays linked below all argue that Snape is basically a good guy. If you think they're a bit delusional you can also vote for the opposite theories at Severus Snape: The Good, the Bad and the Bizarre.

I found these essays at: The Leaky Cauldron's Scribbulus, Mugglenet's Editorial Page and The Harry Potter Lexicon's Essays.

This sketch is of a teenage Severus also made by Makani.

Note: Before voting you need to become a member of Squidoo. Don't worry it's free, easy and you can even make a little money for yourself or your favorite charity.

Featured Fan Art

Now on to less depressing topics

While looking through the fanart at MuggleNet, I discovered this computer-generated 3d image of The Cave by Hamed. Right now he has one other image, The Horcrux, at 3DLinks.

3DLinks has a lot of other computer-generated art. Themes include Sci-Fi, Nature, Architecture, Fantasy, etc.

Note: The files are large and can take time to download.

Hamed is one of several artists I have highlighted at Harry Potter Fan Art. They are all so good they almost make me want to become an artist.

If You Liked Harry Potter. . .

I also recommend the Thief Lord. It is the story of two orphans (Why is it always orphans?) who run away to Venice, where they encounter the mysterious Thief Lord. Although he helps them, he also drags them into increasingly dangerous heists.

The story involves mystery, magic and the bonds of family.

Go to What to Read after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows to find other books I recommend or suggest your own.

The Thief Lord

The best thing is that it is a stand alone novel. You won't have to wait for sequels. . .

The Thief Lord

Book lovers will be pleased to know that the movie version is very true to the book.

Order of the Phoenix Soundtrack

Nicholas Hooper composed the music for Order of the Phoenix.

Hooper is a British film and television composer. He has composed music for the BBC productions: "Land of the Tiger" and "Andes to Amazon."

He has also composed music for the movies: The Tichborne Claimant, My Family and Other Animals, and The Girl in the Café.

Go to Harry Potter Music to find out more about John Williams and Patrick Doyle, the composers for the earlier movies.

Samples from the Soundtrack

The Best Wands

While at Lumos 2006, I compared wands being sold by three different vendors.

The best wands were being sold by Gary Hall at Whirlwood Magic Wands. Gary personally makes every wand by hand and has 35 years of experience as an artist. Every wand I looked at was a beautiful work of art.

Moreover, it was clear that Gary is an artist, trying to sell his hand made wands, rather than an entrepreneur trying to make a sale.

Note: I do not have any financial incentive for recommending Whirlwood wands, nor did I buy one . . . my niece is custom making one for me! Now if I could only convince her to get her own web site. . .

Mugglenet

Mugglenet has almost everything a Harry Potter fan could want. It was created by a homeschooled teenager named Emerson Spartz, who is now attending Notre Dame.

It has grown to be one of the biggest Harry Potter fan sites. In addition to the up-to-date news, there are editorials (some of which Jo Rowling has even read), book and movie information, forums, etc. One of my favorite sections is the Fun Lists. You can find out "25 Ways to Tick Off a Harry Potter Fan..."

The main page lists the latest news.

My favorite part is the world famous editorials.

They also have the Chamber of Secrets forums.

And this is their banner.

Official Sites

Here are the official Harry Potter sites. The most important one being the first...
Jo Rowlings Site
Jo's Site includes news, a diary, FAQs about the books as well as an occasional Easter Egg.
Jo's Text Only Version
If Jo's site takes too long to download, as it does for me with dial-up, use this link to get the text only version. You will, of course, missout on the Easter Eggs.

Currency Converter

Have you ever wondered how many Galleons, Sickles and Knuts you could get for $20.00. Go to CNN Money's Currency Converter to find out. You can also find out how many US Dollars you need to purchase one ounce of dragon liver.

There is also a link to an article about how expensive being a Harry Potter fan can be at What it costs to be a Harry Potter fan.
