Soccer in the last decade

The last decade has seen the rise of many arguably legendary football players, Messi, Christiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane just to name a few. I would like to show you in my opinion, the goals of the year for every year in the past 10 years. I want his list to be rewritten as time passes so please offer some suggestions as to goals I can include in.

2012

The Barclays Premier league absolute screamer!

2012 has not quite wrapped up yet but I have chosen the great goal by the Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse as my goal of the year. Struck with great power with the outside of the foot, showing what the Senegalese signing can achieve. What makes the shot so impressive though is the swerve that is placed on the ball, to place right into the corner of the net.

Another contender included Zlatan's Ibrahimovic 4 goals against England.

Wayne Rooney's bicycle kick

The superb strike

Who could forget one of the greatest highlights of Rooney's career. I am a Manchester City fan, and I remember being absolutely stunned as the overhead kick flew in. I was in shock. But I have to give the goal of the year to him, it was a great re-positioning of himself after quickly reacting to the deflection from Nani's cross and superbly finished. Man United fans will remember this one in years to come.

2010 World cup stunner

2010, I had to use a World cup goal for this one. The goals for the South African World cup was less plentiful than what we usually experience, some claim it was the ball, some say it was the climate. But this did not stop the quality of some of the shots, like Maicon's shot from the corner line or Giovanni Van Bronckhurst's miles out shot. I had to give this one to the Netherlands player though because I found that this goal took more skill to achieve than Maicon's who I believe to just be a fluke.

I have to be completely honest, I had never heard of this player before this goal. The Wolfsburg man does a superb dribble completely defeating the Munich defenders. Rounds the keeper and cheekily uses the back of his foot to push it past the last two defenders covering the goals.

Its hard to believe that Messi was just 19 or 20 years old in this clip, this great run reminded everyone of the legend Diego Maradona. The ease in which the Argentinian rounds the defenders is very startling and I could bet that the getafe defenders were just stuck to the ground in shock. In true messi stlye he ends with a calm finish after rounding the keeper.

The Ibrahimovic Ajax goal

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been to fair few clubs in his lengthy career but one of his first was the Netherlands club Ajax in which he scored this amazing goal. Great dribbling mixed with 100000 fake shots in true FIFA style in order to fool all the defenders in his path, including the keeper. This goal shows why almost every league in Europe wants him on their team.
