Great Book Club Reading
When my book club chose The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society for its next book, I was a bit skeptical, but I was in for a delightful surprise!
This wonderful little book takes place after World War II on the island of Guernsey in the English Channel. The story is told entirely in letters and you get hear the story through the words of 20 different people.
The main character is a writer in England who corresponds with a wonderful cast of eccentric people from Guernsey. The main topic of discussion is life during World War II when the Germans occupied the island of Guernsey.
A wonderful read and a lots to discuss for book clubs. i highly recommend this book.

The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society
people pulling together
Many of these people were not readers but now they were in a literary society. Through their letters we see how books became a big part of their life during the occupation of the island.
We meet a great cast of charming characters that live on this remote island. There is Dawsey, the rather reclusive gentlemen, who is very short with words who first writes to Juliet (the English writer), Eben the fisherman, Elizabeth the one whose quick thinking started the literary society, and Amelia who is very cautious before allowing Juliet to enter their lives.
There are many more characters in the book, but I will leave that for you to discover when you read it.
This book says so much about the human spirit and how people live their daily lives and pull together in hard times!
The best book I've read this year!!
“A wonderfully eccentric cast of characters pulled together during wartime!”

I just in the 3rd chapter, and enjoying it very much. I also recommend an oldie "84 Charing Cross Road" which is correspondence between a book lover and a British book store.
