My Review

When Arthur Dent wakes up on Thursday morning and goes to the bathroom to shave the biggest thing on his mind is "Yellow". What he doesn't realise is that there's something more threatening than the bulldozer about to demolish his house to make way for a bypass.

God, I love this book. It is witty and clever and funny. The characters and concepts are great. There are dozens of quotable quotes. Douglas Adams writing is concise. He has the reader laughing out loud on almost every page.

I rediscovered Douglas Adams only recently and gulped down almost all of his books - one of my favourites!

Sunday afternoons in the late seventies were incomplete without a seesion of the BBC radio's instalment of 'A Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy'

Sorry, not my cup of tea.

The best line ever:

Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the drug store, but that's just peanuts to space.

The book:

The History of every major Galactic Civilization tends to pass through three distinct and recognizable phases, those of Survival, Inquiry and Sophistication, otherwise known as the How, Why and Where phases.
For instance, the first phase is characterized by the question How can we eat? the second by the question Why do we eat? and the third by the question Where shall we have lunch?
