Stephenie Meyer's Incredible story of Love, Devotion, and Survival
Stephenie Meyer has become a popular author for her famed young adult book series, the Twilight saga, but you may not know that Stephenie also wrote another book in 2008 called The Host.
The Host is Stephenie Meyer's first adult novel and it offers a fantastic and gripping storyline. I highly recommend it.

The Host
Overview of The Host
An alien race has taken over the planet Earth. Humans have now become hosts for souls - creatures that can only live within another being. The souls came quietly, a few at a time, to Earth and slipped in without notice. Once they were discovered, it was too late.
Souls are a peaceful race and they feel humans do not deserve the planet they have been given. Not only are people destroying their world, but they tend to hurt, maim, and kill each other. Better that the souls take over and make Earth a more beautiful and peaceful place to live.
The quiet war is almost over. Most of the human minds have been erased by the souls that have invaded their bodies. But a small group of humans are still in hiding - running to avoid capture and doing what they can to survive.

Book Description
The Host: A Novel
Amazon Price: $4.88 (as of 02/14/2012)![]()
Melanie Stryder has been in hiding - refusing to be invaded by a parasite soul, but she is finally captured and becomes an unwilling host. But Melanie is a fighter and is strong enough that her mind is not erased. She has so much to live for and she refuses to just fade away.
Wanderer, the invading Soul, does not understand why the host mind will not die. Having rode eight host bodies before, she should be strong enough to override one unwilling human and use her memories to find the other human resistors. So, why does she feel sympathy for her host?
Melanie begins to fill the Wanderer's mind with images of the man she loves and, unable to resist in the face of such emotion, Wanderer comes to have feeling for this human man she has never met.
Wanderer, assigned with the task of exposing any remaining resistors, but unused to these strong human senses and feelings, is suddenly unsure of where her loyalties lie.
The Wanderer begins to feel an odd kind of kinship with her host. And when an outside force pushes her to make a decision, Wanderer suddenly finds herself on a dangerous mission to find the man she and Melanie both love.

The Host Book Trailer
This is not an official trailer for The Host, but it is a wonderful representation. The creator of this video did a fantastic job capturing the essence of The Host.
Why I love The Host
I received my copy of The Host as an incentive to join a book club. I knew nothing about the book except that the author was Stephenie Meyer, who also wrote the Twilight series. I loved Twilight, so I was excited to give The Host a try.
Once it arrived in the mail, I realized The Host was a type of science fiction novel - with aliens coming from deep space to take over the world. This is usually not my type of read (I am more into horror fiction), so the book set for a week before I picked it up again. I finally decided to give it a chance and I am so glad that I did. I was hooked by the first chapter and totally immersed myself in The Host for two days.
To my surprise and enjoyment, I discovered that The Host is much more than just a science fiction novel. The author has combined sci-fi with adventure, action, drama, suspense, and a bit of mystery. It is even a love story. I fell head over heels for the world Stephenie Meyer has created in The Host.
The book is absolutely wonderful. The characters have a lot of depth and are very intriguing. You feel you come to know and love them. The story is full of suspense and very exciting. It captures you and does not let go. Best of all, the ending is very satisfying and the story feels complete.
The Host is an adult novel, but it is very clean and (in my opinion) safe for young adult readers. My eleven year old daughter read it when I was done. When I asked her how she liked it, she exclaimed, "That book was awesome!" I had to agree.
I highly recommend The Host to anyone that loves a good read. If offers something for everyone and it is a wonderful storyline. Stephenie Meyer should be applauded for another great book.

When Bella Swan moves to Forks, Washington, she expects to be miserable, but then she meets Edward Cullen and discovers his secret. Vampires and werewolves highlight this young adult romance series. I highly recommend the Twilight Saga!

- Great lens. I red The Host soon after it was released, and like you, I typically don't like Sci-Fi books, but I loved this book. It is by far a better written novel with a more meaningful plot than any of the Twilight books. I am amazed that more people have not read this novel.
