Snowboarding Gear

I ride everyday, over 100 days a season. Good snowboarding gear makes a difference, not only in your riding but good quality products that will last are a plus.

There's nothing worst than spending $250 for a pair of boots and having to take them back to the shop after you rode them for 30 days because they get full of water. You will have to send them back and blah blah. A pain in the butt.

Bindings...........they will fall apart, some straps break with cold temps. We have been through it all!

I remember I had to carry a shoelace in my pocket 'cause my bindings kept breaking one season. Or having to wear plastic bags inside my boots 'cause they leaked so bad. Now I know and I stay away from products that don't last.

The-House.com......Importance of Wearing Protective Gear

Accidents happen when you least expect them, that's why it's a good idea to wear protective gear. Getting sidelined by a totally preventable accident sucks.

Last winter I was goofin' around doing some backside tail butter spins when I caught my heel edge, it just threw me on my back and whipped my head on the snow. Fortunately I was wearing my helmet, other wise that would have been the end of my day, or maybe even a concussion.

Protective gear is the way to go if you want to help prevent an injury from happening to you. It's not just for a beginner either, all level of riders wear protective gear. Actually the better you get the more you might want to wear them because you are going for way bigger tricks then someone just starting out. Giro Bad Lt Audio Snowboard Helmet Matte Black

The-House.com......Want to improve your riding?

Developing a strong core will make you faster, stronger, and less likely to break.

We have finally found the ultimate riders workout. Working out is the most essential activity necessary for developing your skills as a rider. If you want to take your riding to the next level than you need to develop a strong core. Your core muscles are what give you the ability to go faster, longer, stronger, and they keep you safer. Your body can bounce back from wipe outs.

Let's face it going to the gym just sucks. Unless you are super motivated by the time you get to the gym you have lost your will to work out. The same thing also happens if you have a home gym, by the time you set it up your over it. If you are like me you get this sudden burst of motivation and just want to start working out right away with no equipment, well about 2 years ago I discovered these programs. All I have to say is Coach Eddie Lomax is a genius. We use the two workout programs listed below all the time. Over the past 2 years we have reduced our injuries and increased the amount of time we spend riding.

A Short Story

It was a perfect day, early season, to be exact it was December 16th , the park wasn't even open yet. We had some powder days so the entire mountain was open. I was riding in the trees having a super chilled day.

One of my friends was just learning how to ride the trees so I wasn't going too fast......I saw two little stumps sticking out of the snow and I said to myself "Oh I'm going to fit my board in between those stumps, how fun".

I was wrong, it was the biggest mistake of my life so far....I'm not that old....well, once I got to the stumps all the snow was gone and I was in the middle of stump world, no snow and just wood.

I fell, twisted my knee and hit it on a stump. It hurt so bad, I'm used to the abuse so I got up and rode away, I think I even took another run.
I went home, took a shower and then the real pain started. My right knee was the size of a freakin' small watermelon, I sat down at the end of my bed and told my friend I had to go get Tylenol or something. I'm not big on pills and stuff so getting Tylenol was a big deal.

As we were leaving the house the pain was so bad that I started to shake, it was weird and then everything was turning black. Later I found out that that's called being in shock , my last words where " the hospital is the other way" . When I got to the hospital I was almost having a heart attack. They took x-rays and nothing was broken so the next diagnosis was "2nd degree tears to ACL (anterior cruciate ligament),LCL (lateral collateral ligament) and MCL (medial cruciate ligament)" I didn't quite break them but I stretched them all the way, no riding at all for two months that's if the maniscus wasn't infected.

I had to get MRIs' which are not cheap, go to physical therapy etc. Then dealing with the thought of maybe not riding at all for the rest of the season.

I left the hospital with that weird smell that the hospitals have, crutches and a huge bill. I will say that my knee injury is for sure part of the snowboarding common injuries. This was my first major accident.

Now I have a separated shoulder, fractures hips etc. I don't want to scare anyone but accidents do happen and if you ride hard you will pay. But that is why you are here to learn about snowboarding common injuries.

Always wear a helmet just make sure you don't have a gapers gap (open space between goggles and helmet allowing forehead to be exposed) and if you feel that is necessary there is a bunch of protective gear available now days. From butt pads to wrist guards.

Be safe and have fun.

PS: After a month and a half I was able to ride groomers with pain the rest of that season. My knee has never been the same.
