Hey Hey they're the Monkees! This made-for-tv band was a hit in the late 1960's, but their music continues to be popular. I discovered them on Nickelodeon after my family got Cable TV, and they were so funny. When I found out they actually had made albums, I went hunting for them on CD and I have several.
The band is made up of four young men thrown together to form a band: Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz, Mike Nesmith, and Peter Tork. Davy Jones headlined an eBay Live gala.
In additional to their TV show and albums, they also produced a movie called "Head" which a series of skits like you'd see on the TV show. I enjoyed it a lot, it's very funny in a campy sort of way.
There have been TV reunions of the band as well - they're one of those icons of the late 1960's that have stuck around.
Over their careers, they had a number of hit songs including "Daydream Believer", which was written by John Stewart, who passed away on January 19, 2008.
The Monkees at a Glance
The Monkees were a pop rock quartet assembled by Robert "Bob" Rafelson and Bert Schneider in Los Angeles in 1966 for the American television series The Monkees, which aired from 1966 to 1968, and so were primarily in acting roles. The members were Americans Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork, and Englishman Davy Jones, who were supervised and popularized by Don Kirshner.
At the time of the band's formation, its producers saw The Monkees as a Beatles-like band.Sandoval (2005), p. 26. At the start, the band members provided vocals, and were given some performing and production opportunities, but they eventually fought for and earned the right to collectively supervise all musical output under the band's name. The group undertook several concert tours, allowing an opportunity to perform as a live band as well as on the TV series. Although the show was canceled in 1968, the band continued releasing records until 1970. In the 1980s, the television show and music experienced a revival, which led to a series of reunion tours, and new records featuring various incarnations of the band's lineup.

- When I was a kid & the Monkees were in original run, my favorite was Davy. Now it's Mike, since he's the only one that's done significant post-Monkees work (to my knowledge).

- Great Lens!
When I was growing up, The Monkees were more important than the Beatles! Having their TV show in constant re-runs on a local station saw to that!
I still love to put their music on every now and then, and slip into the past...

- My girlfriend and I went to see Davy Jones and Mike Winters (of Mike & Bernie Winters fame) in pantomime in Fort Lauderdale over Christmas. Davy Jones sang a couple of Monkees songs, he still has a voice. Got to meet him after the show which was nice.
