The New Seven Wonders Of The World: The Most Remarkable Destinations On The Planet

Ranked #18,014 in Travel & Places, #418,933 overall

Many aspire to world travel but often don't know where to begin. With so much to see, it's important to have a plan and many have made it their goal to glimpse the Seven Wonders of the World during their lifetime. Since it takes a lot of time and money to see the innumerable beautiful and interesting places in the world, narrowing the list is wise and getting the needed passport is as easy as going to your computer and filling out an online passport application. Since six of the seven wonders are in a foreign country, you will certainly need to get that passport to get on your way.

Of the original sites listed as the Seven Wonders of the World, only one is on today's updated list and that wonder is the Great Pyramids of Giza. The original list has also been renamed the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Let look at the sites listed on the best 'new' wonders list.

The Sites To See

The first new wonder is Victoria Falls in Africa. It is created by the Zambezi River and is in both Zambia and Zimbabwe. At twice as high as Niagara Falls and twice as wide as Horseshoe Falls, Victoria Falls is one of the largest waterfalls in the world. Seeing it in person is truly breathtaking, and it's easy to see why it's native name is "The Smoke That Thunders."

The United States is home to the second wonder. Located in Arizona, the Grand Canyon has been one of the top destinations in the world giving the traveler an opportunity to see what the Colorado River has carved over the last million years. With this breathtaking sight being right here in the United States, an pasport is not required.

Number three on the list is the Great Barrier Reef which is located off the coast of Australia in the Coral Sea. While it is know to be the largest reef system in the world, it is actually more than 1,600 miles of 2,900 individual reefs. This formation creates a site that is even visible from outer space.

The fourth New Wonder of the World is the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. Considered the largest Art Deco statue in the world, it stands at a staggering 130 feet tall and nearly 100 feet wide with his arms outstretched. This statue stands looking down over Rio from the peak of the 2,300 foot tall Mount Corcovado.

The fifth wonder is Mount Everest. While climbing its peak is not exactly a family-friendly vacation idea, it's definitely still worth seeing. As the highest point on the entire face of the Earth, it's peak reaches 29,002 feet into the sky.

The sixth wonder is not really a place but a visual experience. Viewed from the northern most points on the globe, the Aurora or Northern Lights attract many to the northern regions of Canada for the spectacular heavenward show of the dancing lights.

Finally, new wonder number seven is Paricitun, a Mexican volcano found in the middle of Michoacan, Mexico. Many flock to this Mexican lava-covered community to get a photo op with this new wonder.

As you can see, our world has so many incredible sights to enjoy, it would take more than one lifetime to see them all so start with the newly listed top seven. A pass port will be required for six out of the seven so go to your computer and download an online passport application to get the process started.
