My Review Of The Outsiders
The Outsiders is a book written by a teenager about teenagers. The story is told through the eyes of a 14 year old boy named Ponyboy Curtis who grew up on the wrong side of the tracks with his two brothers Darrell and Sodapop.
The story takes place over a two week period that would forever change and shape his life. The novel is set in the 1960's in Oklahoma during a time when the two major socioeconomic classes for Ponyboy's peers were the wealthy Soc's and the Greasers.
This book is my favorite coming of age book and I read it several times while growing up. It deals with the changes and emotions one goes through during adolescence. Personal identity, heroism, peer pressure, innocence, family and belonging are all key issues that the characters of the Outsiders experience in this novel.

According to Ponyboy, there are two kinds of people in the world: greasers and socs. A soc (short for "social") has money, can get away with just about anything, and has an attitude longer than a limousine. A greaser, on the other hand, always lives on the outside and needs to watch his back. Ponyboy is a greaser, and he's always been proud of it, even willing to rumble against a gang of socs for the sake of his fellow greasers--until one terrible night when his friend Johnny kills a soc. The murder gets under Ponyboy's skin, causing his bifurcated world to crumble and teaching him that pain feels the same whether a soc or a greaser. This classic, written by S. E. Hinton when she was 16 years old, is as profound today as it was when it was first published in 1967.

In 1983, Francis Ford Coppola's film of S.E. Hinton's novel struck a powerful chord with audiences, capturing the intense feelings of being caught between childhood and adulthood, and not belonging anywhere. Decades later, Coppola has revisited the film and reintegrated 22 minutes of character-enriching footage, including a new beginning and ending more true to the book. A rousing new rock-n-roll soundtrack featuring six songs from Elvis Presley and other music greats make this new version of The Outsiders one of movie history's great rediscoveries.
