A Pact

This was the second book I have read by Jodi Picoult, and I must say that she delivered! Picoult writes not only about the present day problems of Chris, but also of Chris and Emily's past. This book shows that you don't ever truly know anyone, including the people you love. It is a heartbreaking story about true love and the lengths someone would go for the people they love. Its a book that keeps you reading to the end, unsure of what will happen next!

The Plot of "The Pact"

The Hartes and the Golds have been friends for years, and their children, Chris Harte and Emily Gold, grew up together from the day they were born. When Chris and Emily started dating, everyone was happy. Wouldn't it be great if the children of two inseparable families got married, had children, and grew old together? That became impossible when Emily came to the hospital, shot to death. According to Chris, they had a suicide pact. But is this the truth? Was Emily really suicidal, and, if so, why did her parents not suspect it at all? As Chris is in jail for murder, the two once inseparable families suddenly become great enemies.

A little bit more about Jodi Picoult

Jodi Picoult majored in creative writing at Princeton. After she graduated, she worked odd jobs, such as copyrighter, techinical worker, an editor, and an English teacher. She then got a Masters in Education from Harvard University. Now, she is married to Ton Van Leer with three kids. She wrote her first novel, Songs of the Humpback Whale, when she was pregnant with her first child.
