Mojitos, Mojitos, Mojitos!!!

Being an avid drinker for the last few years, I have come across quite a few pretty good drinks. One drink that I have come across that I really cannot get enough of is the Mojito. You need to know that all Mojtos are NOT created equal. You can visit 50 different bars and restaurants and you will inevitably taste 50 very different Mojitos. I am going to give you my recipe for what I consider to be the BEST MOJITO THE YOU WILL EVER DRINK! If you have a recipe that you think is better, please let me know because I have been working on this for quite a while, and I feel that it is unbeatable!

History of the Mojito

Mojito (; ) is a traditional Cuban highball.

A Mojito is traditionally made of five ingredients: white rum, sugar (traditionally sugar cane juice), lime, sparkling water and mint. The original Cuban recipe uses spearmint or "Yerba buena", a much lighter mint variety very popular in the island.Traditional Mojito recipe from CubaAbout.com Mojito Its combination of sweetness, refreshing citrus and mint flavors are intended to complement the potent kick of the rum, and have made this clear highball a popular summer drink.Summer Cocktail News: Mojitos Go FruityShake It Up, Baby: Cuban Cocktail Is Making a Splash

When preparing a Mojito, lime juice is added to sugar (or syrup) and mint leaves. The mixture is then gently mashed with a muddler. The mint leaves should only be bruised to release the essential oils and should not be shredded. How to Muddle a Mojito Then rum is added and the mixture is briefly stirred to dissolve the sugar and to lift the mint sprigs up from the bottom for better presentation. Finally, the drink is topped with ice cubes and sparkling water. Mint leaves and lime wedges are used to garnish the glass. The Classic Cuban Mojito

Need to know how to make a simple syrup?

Simple Syrup (also known as Bar Syrup, Rock Candy Syrup) is little more then a mixture of sugar and water.

You first bring the water to a boil, then dissolve the sugar into it. Once the sugar is fully dissolved, you remove the pan from the heat and allow it to cool. The resultant liquid is easily stored in a plastic squeeze bottle to make it easy to add to cocktails as necessary.

The ratio of sugar to water can be left to personal preference, traditionally it is one part water to two parts sugar.
