This lens is set to explore the possibilities given by the Pineapple Diet and to try to assess whether or not this diet really works, and if it does, whether the Pineapple diet created by Metzger is a healthy diet or yet another fad diet that needs to be avoided. Pineapple dieting, also sometimes referred to as the "Pineapple & Tuna Diet" is gaining in popularity, so it's more important than ever to find out if the pineapple diet works.
Pineapple Diet - Good or Fraud?

The pineapple diet is a supplemental diet that is based in part off of the idea of negative calorie foods. The pineapple diet was first proposed by Joann Metzger, and so is often also referred to as the Metzger pineapple diet, or the pinapple and tuna diet.

The most common is to only eat fresh pineapple or fresh pineapple juice for three days while drinking only ice water, taking pineapple diet pills, and eating two cans of tuna the second day. Then four days of decent eating, keeping some type of a diet friendly eating plan, then another three days of crash pineapple dieting and repeat.
The argument over whether or not the pineapple diet is good or a scam is kind of hazy. It's not a scam because the diet does help drop weight, but pineapple although it is a good diet food, is also high sugar and eating that much acidic fruit and nothing else means it's a thinly veiled starvation diet. So to lose 5 lbs, yeah it works, and if it's balanced out better it's not a bad idea to encourage healthier eating habits, but as far as a full time diet, it was never meant for that and it would not be healthy to do so.

So there are a lot of downsides or potential downsides, to the pineapple weight loss diet. For one, the pineapple diet has never been scientifically proven, so there are no hard number studies on whether or not this works. Obviously it's really hard to eat even 2,000 calories in pineapple a day, and on top of that it is fruit as opposed to fat and carbs, so it makes sense that weight would be lost, but it isn't the healthiest diet to ever cut out a lot of food groups.
The other part is that pineapple is high in natural sugars, so for anyone who is hyperglycemic or diabetic could have a problem with this.

- wow. there are diets for everything. i have never heard of the pineapple diet. i suppose then, if you restrict and only eat one type of food, you would lose weight... whether you decided to only eat, meat, or only potatoes. interesting info though. thanks.

- The entire idea of dieting fails to address the underlying lifestyle & habit issues that create adipose tissue. Any diet that restricts foods like this is not safe in the long run, and can actually cause metabolic harm. However, that said, you did a good job of presenting both sides of this concept, so as a lens, it's pretty darned good.
