All About the Ryder Cup
The Ryder Cup is played over three days at a venue in either the United States or Europe. Each team comprises 12 golfers and non-playing captain, with selections determined by standings in the various Ryder Cup rankings as well as wildcards allocated to the team captains.Ryder Cup History
A team tournament between the finest players in the United States was first proposed by golf journalists in the 1920s. While the idea received a cold reception in the United States, it was embraced across the Atlantic and the first team competition between the United States and Great Britain was contested in 1921.
The second such tournament was held in 1926, and attended by the English seed merchant, Samuel Ryder, who proposed making the tournament official and offered to contribute a prize fund and a suitable trophy. The inaugural Ryder Cup was hosted in 1927, and has been hosted every two years since, excepting the Second World War.
Valhalla Country Club

The hosting of the Ryder Cup is alternated between venues in the United States and Europe. In 2008 the Ryder Cup returns to the United States, where it will be hosted at the Valhalla Country Club in Louisville, Kentucky.
The Valhalla Country Club features a Jack Nicklaus designed course that is rated one of the top 100 golf courses in the United States, and the finest in Kentucky. The par 71 course has hosted two PGA Championships, and features a links style front nine and a scenic, forested back nine.
