The Saddle Club: One of the best horsey series for kids for more than 20 years!
The Saddle Club books are great books for horse crazy kids! Trust me, I was a horse crazy kid and I would have loved to join in on the horsey fun and adventures with Stevie, Carol and Lisa! Reading about their lives was not only entertaining, but also educational. I learnt quite a few things from reading the books, not only about horses but also about friendship.

The Saddle Club books
Author Bonnie Bryant started writing The Saddle Club books in the 1980s, and today there are over 100 books in the series.
The first book that started it all is called Horse Crazy. In this book Lisa arrives at Pine Hollow for her first ever riding lesson, where she meets Stevie and Carole who have been riding there for a while. Things aren't exactly smooth sailing at first, but you've probably already guessed that by the end of the book the three have become firm friends and The Saddle Club is born!

This is the original version of Horse Crazy that my friends and I had back in the early 1990s! I can't believe it's on Amazon!
When the TV show started, I couldn't believe how much the actors looked like the original models from the book covers. The first few books had photos for the covers, but after a while they started using drawings instead.

The Saddle Club on TV! (And now DVD!)
The Saddle Club TV show began in 2001. It was a great success, and I only wished it had been around when I was younger! Why did it take the TV people so long to figure out that girls love horses?!
The show was filmed in Australia, but it was made as a joint effort by teams in Canada and Australia, so that's why some of the actors have North American accents and some Australian. It's a bit weird to begin with, but you get used to it!

Some of the episodes of the TV show were edited together to make movies, so if you've seen the TV show, then it's important to realise that some of the stuff in these DVDs may not be new to you!
Series 1 of the TV show is due for release on the 5th of August 2008 (see link below). Although Australians (and people whose DVD players can play Australian DVDs) can buy series 1 and 2 now from the ABC Shop Online (See "Other places for Saddle Club Shopping" below)
