How Does the Samsung Instinct Stack Up?

iPhone versus Instinct

Since before it's introduction, the Samsung Instinct was touted as an iPhone rival. So, for anyone comparing the two devices here is a brief overview.

The Instinct is priced below the iPhone when purchasing them with a plan. The iPhone runs around $199 and the Instinct around $129. Obviously, the providers are different as well. The iPhone is designed for use with AT&T while the Instinct is paired with Sprint service. Clearly, identifying which provider will best meet your needs is important when buying any cell phone. Even without a plan, you'll need to go with a phone that will operate on the types of networks your provider of choice uses.

Instinct offers a number of features that the 3G iPhone does not. The iPhone offers a 2 megapixel camera with flash. While the Instinct lacks a flash, it offers video recording which the iPhone does not. While both phones offer messaging capabilities, only the Instinct allows picture messaging.

Both phones have GPS capabilities, but only the Instinct can provided turn-by-turn directions. On the otherhand, the iPhone allows you to geotag photos while the Instinct does not.

If you want voice commands or streaming TV, you'll have to stick with the Instinct. However, if you need Wi-Fi, look to the iPhone.

The display size on the Instinct is just a bit smaller at 3.1" versus the iPhone's 3.2" screen. Both are touch screens although the iPhone is generally considered to have a "slicker" interface. The iPhone display is a bit more colorful. Overall size is quite similar although the Instinct is just a bit thinner.

Whether one of these two phones is "better" than the other really depends on the features that an individual needs.
