Yes, because...

nitesh says:

love is not relationship
it like feeling
understand each other emotion.

kendall says:

who is valentine's

Miss Hate says:

Love is stupid and overrated. It never works and won't last. Sappy Sappy Sappy....
People who say "We all want love" are liars because I hate this not needed emotion.
I don't love to be loved.

Terry says:

I Don't believe that we are celebrating the death of Love, And If the Priest that gave his life for believing that he was doing the right thing in marrying people during that time he would say It was to make sure True love by continued by those he married and as an example of God's love for us all and of Gods will for us to have a partner in marriage which is biblical, then that priest would say he was willing to give his life for love just as Christ gave his life for his love for us. Love is the Greatest Thing That God has given us and for those who reject Love of any kind, its because they have not Allowed or Received or Given the Love that God has given us to pass on to others or to ourselves. Without Love, we cannot grow to our potential in life, We are all made to love and be loved.

Amanda says:

Love has a different meaning in today's society. It's sad that most can't respect the cliche of "true love."

Shilpi says:

Yes, because once you are in love, you dont know the limitations...............

Andrew Weiber says:

Yes. Hard to define, hard to understand and hardest to conquer. Yet we spend so much time trying to decipher and break it down.

No, because...

noobeegin says:

Love is what makes life worth living each day. It is stonger than any negative feeling on earth. I say thumbs up to love!

kimmie says:

no, if you love someone than it's not overrated , and if you thank it is than you are STUPID.

damon says:

nope.

1 cor. 13 says:

No!!!!! Love is the most amazing thing in the world. Though most people missunderstand what love REALY is. God is love. All the rest is lust. You dont really love someone until you have served them, faught with them and forgiven them. Love is 1 Corinthians 13. patien, kind, longsuffing, unselfish, not flashy and haughty. Love cares for others and sooo much more. It everyone focused on love more than anything else, ALL problems would be done away with. Perfect love casteth out ALL fear.

I think love is portrayed incorrectly and gives a mirage of hope, false hope in false things. Love is not overrated! not one bit! The commercialized Valentines "celebrations" are, for sure, overrated. Just like Christmas and Halloween. The dollar bill helps people create sales pitches as to why certain things are a part of particular holidays and people forget the real reason. Yes, Valentines day is to celebrate love and our privilage to have a partner in marriage. Yes, it's appropriate to let your partner know just how much you care about them. Yes, Valentines day can be such a sweet reminder to spoil your loved ones. But you dont HAVE to buy a heart shaped box of chocolates. You dont HAVE to buy a premade card. You can leave a sweet little note in a lunch bag or purse. You can surprise them in the middle of the day at an unexpected place just to tell them how much they mean to you. Or.... You can do this all through out the year. What??? Yes, I said it, you can make your loved one know they are loved ALL THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. Love is not overrated. Valentines day can be overrated in its material aspect.

SheilaVine says:

We all want to be loved

SheilaVine says:

No because we all look for love from somewhere all our lives

in_search_of_love says:

No.. but Valentines day is extremely overrated..... Love is when two souls fall for eachother

Elenor says:

The kind of Love that Valentine showed was God's love, which is always faithful and true. Loving God and others is more important than keeping the civil law... which is why he was executed.

aimee says:

how could it be?

Elizabeth says:

No way! Who doesn't love to be loved, and to give love yourself?

The Story of Cupid

In Roman mythology, Cupid (Latin cupido) is the god of erotic love and beauty. He is also known by another one of his Latin names, Amor (cognate with Kama).

In popular culture Cupid is frequently shown shooting his bow to inspire romantic love, often as an icon of Valentine's Day.

In painting and sculpture, Cupid is often portrayed as a nude (or sometimes diapered) winged boy or baby armed with a bow and a quiver of arrows.

The Hindu Kama also has a very similar description. On gems and other surviving pieces, he is usually shown amusing himself with childhood play, sometimes driving a hoop, throwing darts, catching a butterfly, or flirting with a nymph. He is often depicted with his mother (in graphic arts, this is nearly always Venus), playing a horn. He is also shown wearing a helmet and carrying a buckler, perhaps in reference to Virgil's Omnia vincit amor or as political satire on wars for love or love as war.

So, to summarize....

St. Valentine was a priest who served in the 3rd century in Rome, Italy. After the Emperor Claudius banned marriage because he thought single men were better soldiers than married men, St. Valentine started marrying people in secret.

According to legend, when Valentine was discovered marrying people in secret, he was sentenced to death by the Emperor.

So what is it we are basically celebrating? Maybe I'm being cynical, but we are basically celebrating the death of love. Disagree? Join our duel below!

Do you believe the legend of St. Valentine?

Are we really celebrating the death of love, a.k.a., St. Valentine?

Loading Fetching blurbs now... please stand by

No, Valentine's day is more than that...

noobeegin says:

I believe that every day is a day to celebrate love. It is nice to have one day honoring though.

Sandra D says:

yes I believe the legend of St Valentine.we are not celebrating the day of death on the contrary on his death day he sent a love note to the jailor's daughter. This was the birthday or in other words beginning of love notes and messages a way of expressing ones love and feeling towards their loved ones. let me be clear It is not when a seed falls to the ground that it bears fruits , but only when it dies to itself only then it can bear fruits. so did valentine he opposed the king and supported the lovers and finally showed the ways to convey our love to our loved ones. Its much more than our thoughts can think of..love is gods presence in all of us.Its not only when we are alive that we should be remembered but even after our death all should remember us,for our good thoughts, words and deeds.love is unique and pure as gods divine nature. may god bless all with his pure and divine love.happy valentines day

Christina Dawn says:

chefkeem says:

Hmmm...what's love got to do with it?
