Are You a Fan of Dark Shadows? Test Your Knowledge About the Original Cult Classic
Before Tim Burton's Dark Shadows film with Johnny Depp as Barnabas (2012), before Twilight's Edward Cullen and Jacob Black, before Ann Rice's Vampire Novels, there was Dan Curtis's original and ground-breaking gothic soap opera. The first episode aired in June, 1966 and the series ran for five years.
The early episodes, loosely based on Jane Eyre, revolved around a young governess, Victoria Winters, journeying to the remote coast of Maine to a town called Collinsport and the home of the wealthy Collins family, Collinwood.
Ratings were poor until a ghost was introduced into the story line. Viewers responded positively and the series originator, Dan Curtis, developed a host of supernatural plots and spectral characters.
In early 1967, the character Barnabas, a vampire played by Jonathan Frid, was introduced and the series became a sensational hit and cult classic.
Because there are so many episodes and story lines, even this 100 Questions Quiz (and a few polls for bonus points) can't possibly cover everything, but I think you'll find it fairly comprehensive. We are working on a follow-up quiz and more super Dark Shadows lenses and invite you to submit your own questions.
I should warn you that this quiz does contain a lot of spoilers, so you might want to watch the series on dvd before you take the quiz it that is a problem for you.

- Like Tipi, I remember it coming on at 3:30 and ran upstairs to watch it every day after school...and I mean a quick hello to Mom and ran! I have learned by trying the quizzes that just because I was a huge fan in the '60's doesn't mean my memory has kept up with a lot of the details 40some years later:-)

- I used to look forward to snow and sick days or watched Dark Shadows in the summer months or vacations. I did remember that it came on at 3:30 p.m. but there is no way I could get home in time with a long bus ride that dropped us off at 4:45. I sure missed a lot of the questions but some things I remembered like it was yesterday. Barnabas and Quentin were my favorite characters.
