Looking For Some Great Harry Potter Recipes? The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook Sounds Very Promising...

The year was 2000, my son was seven years old and a huge Harry Potter fan. He had read and reread the books published to date. As a matter of fact, we had all read and reread the books. The books had even travelled with us as we moved across Canada in the form of audiobooks.

With Harry Potter so important in our home, it seemed that a Harry Potter birthday party was definitely in order and one was planned. However, I searched and searched in vain for Harry Potter recipes and I know that, in the end, we created our own and we winged it. That, of course, was fine but boy would I have loved to have a proper Harry Potter cookbook in my hands!

My family's love for Harry Potter has not diminished over the years although to be honest I would have to say that my teenage sons are slightly disilllusioned by the movies because they were not very representative of the books. However, with the coming of the two-part movie Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and with the opening and subsequent media frenzy for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, our excitement about Harry Potter has been renewed.

It was, therefore, particularly exciting when I discovered this book,The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook: From Cauldron Cakes to Knickerbocker Glory by Dinah Bucholz , which was released on September 18, 2010.

On this page, find more information about the book as well as more information about Harry Potter recipes including links to my own pages dedicated to butterbeer recipes, butterbeer steins and the other, lesser known Harry Potter cookbook.

About The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook

This book was written for me! (Just joking.) However, if you are a fan like me who has wanted to make the food that appears throughout the Harry Potter books, then The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook is the book for you! It has recipes for all of the food from the books be it simple or fancy fair. Every recipe features a description of the dish as it pertains to its culinary history. However, each was also adapted to suit the North American palate.

The author of this book, Dinah Bucholz, a huge Harry Potter fan like the rest of us, was inspired one day to create a Harry Potter cookbook. She submitted her idea to agents and editors repeatedly and was turned down repeatedly. When finally she received some real feedback she learned what the issue was that everyone was worried about the copyright. She eventually sent her material off to a lawyer to prove that it would not violate copyright, which allowed her to sign with an agent and then, she was free to create The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook.
