The Vibrant City of Melbourne

There are plenty of cheap Melbourne Hotels within reach, most of which offer good quality, modern accommodation. Public transport is cheap and efficient in this city, which makes it quick and easy to get around so it doesn't matter too much if you choose one of the cheaper hotels just outside of the city centre. Melbourne is a lively and avid city, and has a strong European feel with all of its many excellent coffee houses, outdoor cafes, fine dining restaurants and fashion shops. The Yarra river cuts through the city, and the South Bank area is very attractive and provides many high quality eateries including the world renowned restaurants Nobu, Giuseppe and Bistro Guillaume. If you are interested in foods then you will find all kinds of cuisines in Melbourne, from Lebanese to Vietnamese, and the many food markets around the city are a delight for shoppers.

Melbourne also has a vibrant nightlife, with plenty of bars, clubs and late opening dance spots, and popular nights out include the ultra glam 'Dirty Disco' nights at the outlandish club Arthurs, and classic cocktails at the chic basement watering hole Bond Bar. If you fancy a quieter evening then a trip to Astor is a must, which is a stunning Art Deco cinema that shows all of the classic movies, with old fashioned, glamorous surroundings that will take you part to the hey day of the silver screen.
There are plenty of things to see and do in Melbourne, including visiting the lovely riverside Abbotsford Convent, which dates back to 1861, and the popular Aboriginal Heritage Walk around the Royal Botanic Gardens, which covers part of the ancestral lands of the Boon wurrung and Woi wurrung people. The Albert Park Lake is also a lovely area to visit and is famous for its wide variety of bird life including the famous black swans, and the fantastic Australian Centre for Contemporary Art is very popular, with its gothic style rust colored building that houses works from a number of cutting edge artists, photographers, printers and sculptors.
