- If the song dates from 1798, Boucicault could not be the composer

Green is the national color of Ireland. It means a lot to the Irish people. Many songs including 40 shades of green by Jonny Cash have been sang to honor the Irish people, their desire to be free and the pain they went through to achieve this green. We honor the Irish people by wearing green on St Patricks day. Remember to wear green on the coming St Patrick's Day on the 17th of March 2011.
WEARING OF THE GREEN CANVAS
THE WEARING OF THE GREEN LYRICS
The news that's going round?
The shamrock is forbid by law
To grow on Irish ground!
St. Patrick's Day no more we'll keep,
His color can't be seen,
For there's a bloomin' law agin'
The wearing of the green.
I met with Napper Tandy
And he took me by the hand,
And he said, "How's poor old Ireland
And how does she stand?"
"She's the most distressful country
That ever yet was seen;
They're hanging men and women there
For wearing of the green."
Then since the color we must wear
Is England's cruel red,
Sure Ireland's songs will ne'er forget
The blood that they have shed.
You may take the shamrock from your hat now,
Cast it on the sod,
But 'twill take root and flourish still,
Tho' under foot it's trod.
When the law can stop the blades of green
From growing as they grow,
And when the leaves in summertime
Their verdue dare not show,
Then I will change the color that I
Wear in my canteen;
But 'till that day, please God, I'll stick
To wearing of the green.
THE WEARING OF THE GREEN ALSO MENTION THE FATE OF THE SHAMROCK
Cast it on the sod,
But 'twill take root and flourish still,
Tho' under foot it's trod.
When the law can stop the blades of green
From growing as they grow,
A SHAMROCK AND THE WEARING OF THE GREEN
We cannot imagine a St Patrick's Day without a shamrock, but what is the origin of shamrock and St Paddy's Day?To begging with a shamrock is ingrained in the Irish tradition, the word shamrock is derived from the Irish word seamróg, meaning clover and it was anglicanised to the word shamrock as we know it today.
It is said that St Patrick used a shamrock to illustrate the concept of Holy Trinity; Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.
Besides the use of shamrock on religious bases, it has been used as a symbol during the Victorian Period and in medicine too, due to its medicinal values.
Shamrock is important to the Irish as it can be illustrated with the following examples:
It is a registered trade mark by the Government of Ireland
It is one of the four symbols used in the flag of City of Montreal in Quebec, Canada to represent its Irish population
It is used by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board
It also used widely in the Irish pubs throughout the world as well as in the passport stamp in the Montserrat due to its high population of people of Irish decent.
Shamrock shake is a shake that is made available in stores starting mid February to Mid March, the period we celebrate St Patrick's Day.
During St Patrick's Day we see many different types of shamrocks, some with three leaves and others with four leaves.
The four leaved "shamrock" is actually not a shamrock but a clover, but all in all it denotes good luck, the original shamrock is actually the three leaved, remember it was used by St Patrick; The Patron Saint of Ireland to teach the concept of the holy trinity and trinity means three.
There is no way St Patrick could have taught a concept of three using a four leaved shamrock.
Shamrock, wearing of the green and leprechaun are important for the celebration of St Patrick's Day as they all represent Irish Culture.
Let's all wear the green and enjoy the day.

St Patrick's Day is also a special day for the Catholics as it falls on the Lent period, besides, it is in the liturgical calendar.
Remember to wear something green on St Paddy's day otherwise you risk getting pinched.
THE ORIGIN OF THE WEARING OF THE GREEN
By then green was a color of sympathy to the Irish course making the British soldiers become so ruthless that they would shoot anyone wearing green.
Dion Boucicault is credited in having written the original the wearing of the green song.
Wearing Green was considered by the British a symbol of Irish nationalism thus the wearer considered a terrorist and either shot or hanged.
Today wearing of the green on the St Patrick's Day is fun and enjoyable and if one is not wearing green on that day is supposed to be jokingly pinched.

DEVIL'S OWN MOVIE STORYLINE
One of the best movies that remind me of the wearing of the green is the Devil's Own. Played by Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt as some of the key stars, the movie is about an Irish Lad Francis Austin McGuire (Brad Pitt) who is one of the most wanted Irish rebels by the English Authority. Francis Austin McGuire is known as Frank McGuire and plays the role of an IRA rebel. The movies name is Devil's Own. The movie is very Irish, from the tacks and the great views of the Irish Landscape at the start. It will give you the Irish feelings associated with the Wearing of the Green, this St Patric's Day.The movie starts with killing of Frank's dad when Frank is young boy, this prompts Frank to take his destiny as an IRA member and commands respect from his team members. The chief of English Authority looking for Frank is Chief Jim Kelly (Mitchell Ryan). Chief Jim Kelly is determined to get Francis Austin McGuire (Brad Pitt) behind bars for his role in killing English soldiers.
The English ambushes Franks team but somehow Franks manages to escape the dragnet and ends up in America and is hosted by Tom O'Meara (Harrison Ford). Tom O'Meara is cop in the New York City, but do not know the real identity of Frank who is now calling himself Rory Devaney. Tom O'Meara discovers Rory Devaney real name and apprehend him but Rory kills Franks cop partner Edwin Diaz (Rubén Blades) and Frank is on the run again in New York.
Frank's has a mission, to get some missile and take them back to Ireland. Billy Burke (Rubén Blades) is the weapon dealer and has missiles to sell to Frank. The deals go sore with Frank killing Billy and managing to get the weapon to boat and is ready to leave New York and go fight the English with his newly acquired missiles. Tom track Frank at the harbor as Frank is trying to start the boat and Tom Kills him.
This is one of the best movies to take you back to the violent Oreland and how the English have for many years butchered the Irish people in the name of British Empire. What a better way to celebrate the wearing on the green this St Patrick's Day than to watch Devil's Own. It was first released in the USA on the 26th of March 1997. It was one of the best movies of that time.

The following is a paragraph using the word green in a normal conversation.
