The Young Ones

The Young Ones was a tv series from the UK which debuted in that country in 1982. In the later 80s it ran on MTV in the US, and later was re-run by Comedy Central. The show was about four mismatched college students in London. Many strange things happened in their filthy flat, including regular musical guests and a supporting cast that reads like a who's-who of modern British comedy.

Young Ones at a Glance

The Young Ones was a popular British sitcom, first seen in 1982, on BBC2. Its anarchic, offbeat humour helped bring alternative comedy to television in the 1980s and made household names of its writers and performers. Soon afterwards, it was shown on MTV, one of the first non-music television shows on the fledgling channel.

Here are some great bits from the Young Ones. The show could change direction radically in mid-episode and often had bizarre and sudden interludes, ala Monty Python. One second it could be doing a sophisticated spoof of history or pop culture, and then switch right to slapstick and crude humor.

Notable moments include Vyvyn getting pregnant, a rock concert benefit in the living room, the house being underwater in a flood, appearances by musical guests, a hamster named Special Patrol Group, a vampire by parcel post from South Africa, roller discos and explosions.
