What Is The Best Breakfast Food?

Breakfast is according to some the "Most Important Meal Of The Day", and there are all kinds of Breakfast foods, some that are good for you, and some that are not so good.

The best breakfast food for your body just might not be the best that your brain tells you that you want though. While your body is telling you that a nice bowl of oatmeal might be nice, your brain could be craving pancakes and maple syrup, bagels and cream cheese or a sugary donut.

I didn't always eat as healthy as I do nowadays, but as I have got older, I understand the importance of trying to stay healthy, and starting the day off right (well most of the time) is a good way to help keep your body in shape and to prevent problems later in life.

I have to admit that the breakfast plate you see here, of Bacon, Sausage, Baked Beans, Fried Egg and Bubble & Squeak (left over potatoes and vegetables fried up in the skillet) isn't that healthy, but this is the type of breakfast most of us of my generation grew up with in England.

I also grew up with Bread and Dripping, dripping being the fat and juices collected from the roasting pan after our Sunday Roast. This was let to go cold in a bowl, and you would spread the fat onto bread or toast, ideally finding a nice lump of jellied gravy at the bottom, topping with salt and white pepper. Now I have to admit that this was something the little porky me looked forward to in the morning, but apart from the fact it's completely unhealthy, nowadays it's hard to find a roast large enough to give some decent dripping.

These days I usually start the day at home with a glass of Orange Juice, then when I get to work I have a Banana and a mug of Green Tea. About an hour later I have a good bowl of Oatmeal, with Apple Sauce in it. This saves having to add sugar. Sometimes I substitute Honey though for the Apple Sauce.

So that is my way of staying healthy, filling up with good warming filling food.

I am curious to find what you deem to be a good way to start the day, or are you a Cappuccino, Bagel or Donut person?

Breakfast is my favorite meal (any time of the day). I read your article and was wondering what Bubble & Squeak was. Is it the left over potatoes and vegetables fried up in the skillet that you mentioned? Wanted to know what this was for years. I thought it was pork or meat.

You can't beat a real British breakfast. But it's cruel to taunt an Englishman abroad with REAL bacon...it's nigh on impossible to get anything other than streaky bacon here in the U.S. (without spending a fortune). Last time I came back to Blighty my wife and I had bacon pretty much every day for a month because we miss it so much!

When I don't have a ton of time, my favourite breakfast is a fried egg sandwich... 2 eggs with broken yolks, flipped and covered in melted, medium cheddar cheese and put onto 2 pieces of toast Mmmm.... if I've got the time however, I love bacon, eggs over easy (super soft yolks to dip my toast into), hashbrowns, and toast.... so delicious :)

Looks yummy! I've always wanted to try a real English breakfast. :)

My breakfast is a cup of coffee. LOL no joke. It's kind of my creature of habit thing. Hurry up get coffee so I can wake up and get started on whatever I was going to get started on. I need to start eating breakfast, or better breakfast for dinner!

I enjoy apples and almonds (raw, unpasteurized and sprouted) since that mix keeps me very steady and focused for hours. But, for FUN, just FUN breakfasts when all thoughts of good healthy eating go out the window, I love waffles topped with tons of butter and real maple syrup, with a side of bacon or ham. YUMMY! :)

I generally have Grape Nuts Flakes and Cheerios mixed and some Yogurt. But if I go out, I have bacon, eggs, hashbrowns and toast, or French toast and bacon. Sometimes I make eggs, bacon and toast for the evening meal too. Love the lens, Blessed.

Breakfast is definitely the best meal of the day. If my wife would let me I'd eat breakfast for every meal! By the way I learned to love breakfast when I lived in your neck of the woods (Woodstock, then Oxford). The best part about breakfast for me is the social aspect. Saturday and Sunday is the only time my wife and I get to eat breakfast together and it's great.

Fun lens -- I agree about the importance of breakfast. This morning I had a blend of almond milk, coconut milk, flax seeds, coconut, protein powder and ice along with an organic espresso topped with cinnamon. I have an espresso maker at home.

The British Breakfast with Bubble & Squeak looks delicious! With our backyard flock of chickens, we often have fresh eggs for breakfast. My favorite is a breakfast sandwich made from a fried egg, a couple of pieces of cooked ham and melted cheddar cheese on a bagel.

Hubby grew up in the south so his idea of the ideal breakfast is bacon or sausage, eggs over easy, sliced tomatoes, biscuits, with gravy on the tomatoes and biscuits.
My idea of the perfect breakfast has to include eggs fixed any way, and toast with orange juice. LOVED the lens.
