Seals are Adorable Creatures
Ranked #14,067 in Pets & Animals, #382,766 overall
Peekaboo...
We now have a yearly pass for Underwater World in Mooloolaba. This is a place where you can go and see sharks, seals, stingrays, otters and of course the famous Nemo and Dory! Sssshhh, please don't tell my boys that they are not real - we love Nemo and Dory!
On our latest visit we spent a long time with the seals - they are adorable. My son Sam made a good friend of one of the seals there. I caught it on video so that you can take a look. Our visit inspired me to do a bit of research on seals, in this lens I have included my findings.
Their Families
Walruses, seals and sealions are all part of the Pinnipedia family. It is divided up into 3 families which in total have 33 pinnipeds. The 3 families are called Otariidae, Phocidae and the Odobenidae family.
Otariidae Family

This family includes sealions and fur seals and has 14 species in total. These species tend to be able to move around with ease and when they are on land they tend to be more upright.
Phocidae Family

This family has 18 species and includes what we call the true seals. These seals can not move about as easily as the Otariids. They move around rather like a caterpillar, pushing themselves by thrusting their necks forward.

- I love seals! We get them in Port Phillip Bay but you have to go out in the boat to see them. Stunning video of your boys and the seal - a family treasure, now, and in the future

- Yes, its an informative lens but unfortunately the videos are not working. 5* for effort but I would add a bit more content if I were you.
