The Unique Amazon Kindle
in Nov. 2007. The Kindle is used to read E-Books, but does not require internet access. Using an electronic "paper" display, it read the propietary Kindle (AZW) format, and downloads content over Amazon Whispernet, which uses the Sprint EVDO network. Whispernet is available through Kindle with no additional fee.

in reply to Scott Hey Scott, according to the information I found for the article above, you can send documents to a service and they will convert it to the Kindle format. I assume the service that does this is listed in the paperwork that comes with the Kindle device. It costs 10 cents for the conversion. I'm sure your cartoons would work, as you can see from the photo above of the New York Times there is a picture along with the related article.
