Doing Article Marketing the Right Way

Article Marketing is a very popular, low-cost way of advertising. There are several ways in which it can benefit an online business if done correctly.

Article Marketing Begins a New Lease of Life

Improved Article Quality Results in More Traffic

Article Marketing is big. Thousands of people promote their products and websites by publishing articles on one or more article sites. There are several benefits to Article Marketing, but most people either don't know about all of them, or they don't understand how to exploit them.

The biggest problem with Article Marketing is junk. People hear about Article Marketing as being an incredible, free way of getting back-links to their website, and immediately start churning out articles to get as many links as possible.
This is the first mistake. They get so wound up in the desire to get as many links as possible that they lose sight of what else they should be getting from their marketing efforts.

The main culprits are the so-called SEO experts. They tell people to get as many back-links as possible so that they will get a good position in the search engine results pages (SERPs).

So the Article Marketer starts churning out hundreds of articles and submits them to a wide selection of article sites. Eventually, the marketer runs out of fresh ideas, so the quality of the articles begins to diminish. They become shorter and the content starts to become stale. Other marketers use Article Spinner software which re-writes an article and creates a few hundred variants of the content.
The resulting articles often range from poor to unreadable, which means that the overall quality of the article site on which the articles are posted diminishes and the position on the SERPs falls - the site gets dragged down by the poor content.

Improving The Content

The owners of popular article site, Article Content King have been working hard to clean up their site. Old, low-quality articles have been removed, and newly-submitted articles are now subject to approval and moderation before they become live on the site. As a result, the overall quality of the content of the site has improved enormously.

So who are the moderators?

The moderators at Article Content King are the members and the visitors. Any article that is submitted is first approved by the owners of the site. To be approved, the article must comply with some basic submission guidelines. After approval, the articles then go into the moderation queue.

The Article Content King members can then rate the article on a scale of 1 to 10. If the article is not worthy of space on the site, the moderator scores it 1 or 2 and writes some suggestions on how the article could be improved. The author must then improve the article and re-submit it for moderation.

Once an article has been given a rating greater than 2 by three different members, it becomes a live article. From this point onwards, any visitor to the site may rate the article by giving it a thumbs up, or a thumbs down. These increase or decrease the rating by one point respectively.

When searching on the Article Content King site, the articles with the highest ratings are given priority in the search results. This means that the better articles are given more exposure, and the poorer articles move into the background, giving visitors looking for information a better experience.

What Effect Does This Have?

Since starting the moderation system a few months ago, the owners of Article Content King have already noticed a marked difference in the site. Traffic is improving every day, and the time that visitors remain at the site is increasing. The higher quality articles are more likely to be read through to the end, which means that the reader gets as far as the author's resource box. This is incredibly important to the author (although most still don't realise it!). If the visitor reaches the resource box, there is a chance that they will click on a link in the resource box, thus visiting the author's web site.

That is the real benefit of article marketing. Getting back-links fades into insignificance compared with getting traffic delivered to your site.

Previously, when the site was full of junk articles, nobody read them, and therefore never reached the links in the resource boxes.

If you are into Article Marketing, review how you do it. Stop churning out junk just to get a few back-links. Start writing, interesting, high quality articles and start getting traffic to your site. That's what marketing is for.
