Great Books by Dr Seuss
Dr Seuss books are some of the best children's books ever written. Dr Seuss's books are illustrated with the wackiest drawings depicting bizarre worlds with even stranger characters.
Dr Seuss uses rhyming text, usually with a low number of words, in order to help children learn to read his stories and in doing so creates some really funny writing which appeals to children and adults alike.
I read a lot of books; literature, cartoons, bestsellers, non-fiction, and some of Dr Seuss's books are amongst my favourite books ever.
In this lens I feature what I think are Dr Seuss's best five books.
1. Green Eggs and Ham by Dr Seuss

This has to be my favourite Dr Seuss book. As a child I loved the ridiculous situations in which Sam-I-am attempts to get his victim to try Green Eggs and Ham in. The excellent rhyming text and bizarre illustrations go to complete a wonderful book; one that every fussy eater should read.
I still love Green Eggs and Ham!
2. The Sneetches by Dr Seuss
Now everyone can go to frankfurter roasts.

The Sneetches is a brilliant story of weird yellow creatures who have a highly divided society where a "star-upon-thars" makes one priveleged to attend marshmallow toasts and other such social events on the beach. These ridiculous creatures are then the victims of a confidence trick by Sylvester McMonkey McBean who runs off with all their cash, leaving the Sneetches unable to know who is who.
This is a brilliant story with an obvious message and delightful illustrations.
3. The Cat in the Hat by Dr Seuss
Thing 1 and Thing 2 come round to play.

This is one of the zaniest books you could ever dream of with a strange behatted cat providing manic entertainment for two children who have been left at home alone on a rainy day. The cat has all sorts of silly tricks to impress the kids with but when he releases Thing 1 and Thing 2 the children get together to trap them and clean up the wrecked house.
Absolutely mad and brilliant.
4. How The Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr Seuss
It makes your heart grow!

This is a funny parody of the commercialism of Christmas in which the grumpy old Grinch tires of earing the happy Whos of Whoville enjoy Christmas. He attempts to stop Christmas by stealing all the presents and trimmings on Christmas eve but even though he does this Christmas arrives anyway. After much grouching and moaning there is a happy ending for everyone.
I love the miserable old Grinch, there aren't enough loveable old moaners in children's books.
5. Horton Hears a Who by Dr Seuss
A person's a person, no matter how small!

This splendid story has lots of strange characters as is normal for Seuss and focusses on the fact that Horton the elephant is ridiculed by other animals for talking to the tiny Whos of Whoville who no one can see. Eventually the Whos make enough noise to convince all that they exist and Horton is released from his cage.
I love poor old Horton who sticks to what he believes in spite of his beliefs being unfashionable.

- Dr. Seuss has been a favorite in our family for 3 generations ... I've even found and saved a few fun to make recipes for kids based on the Dr. Seuss books.
