THE BLUE GHOST TUNNEL
My theory is because the pump house brings water to Locks 4 - 7, it was plagued by disasters over the years. In fact there were many more disasters not reported because they had no idea who the people were that died. It is recorded in several entries from engineers to local workmen who were there when they happened. Most of the accidents were not reported by the paper for fear of The Welland Ship Canal getting a reputation for being haunted by ghosts.
Here you will find videos, pictures and true stories about ghosts, blue plasma and psychic readings and investigations from the paranormal teams. I`ve added a buy books option for top teen paranormal romance, ghost stories, hauntings and DVD Best Ghost Movies - Amazon.

GHOST TUNNEL THE DEAD LINE in glow worm city
jan 15 2012
GHOST TUNNEL 2 - THE DEAD LINE is now up. Check it out after this one and have fun. However, this little film here, is a look at the old disused railway tunnel, and what's left of the station at Helensburgh, New South Wales, Australia. Having a bit of fun with the eeriness of the tunnel that use to carry the rail line to down the South Coast to Illawarra. Some of the famous people to travel on it include authors, D.H.Lawrence and Robert Louis Stevenson... if only the tunnel walls could speak..... but who knows what may happen sometimes if your imagination takes over..... And have a look at GHOST TUNNEL - GLOW WORM CITY where three locals go to explore for the glow worm in this same tunnel. Also check out my little horror flick THE DEVIL'S PARTY... have a stiff scotch ready...

talk about freaking me out.
earlier this month I was looking through the comments on my blog posts and came across a girl who had a photo of a ghost.
the funny thing is this.
I described this ghost over two years ago in august 2009 while looking in that area for human remains (missing persons case)
and now I have photo evidence that this ghost exists from a total stranger who happen to visit the area and snap a few photos.
you can read more about this story on my victoria stafford a psychic investigation word press blog.
First Welland Canal Construction 1824 - 1829 - Port Dalhousie, Ontario, Canada

In my studies I found several interesting things.
One is that the land may have a cemetery on it.
It was swamp land back in the late 1700s, early 1800s.
Many of the historians live in st catharines ontario canada and they have penned several interesting books.
the one book I looked at even has the original posters and catalogue flyers from the 1800s and 1900s
it was quite comical to read, made me smile many times. :)

taken from 2007 - 2009 in and around the lock 6 pondage area, the welland canal wetlands, bruce trail - merritt, thorold , quarry, 4th and 3rd welland canals areas. funny blue nipple thing is at lock 6 along the welland canal parkway, cross the bridge at glendale ave and first left is the service rd east (gate 12 GM), it's 3 streets before the taylor rd - niagara college - white oaks in niagara on the lake, screaming tunnel, niagara falls, st catharines and thorold ontario boundries all intersect in this area.
the mozie on inn used to be there now it's a new restaurant. a dirt road with NO signs.. it has a sharp bend to the left with a bridge you can see the glendale ave overpass and two big round cylinders where water comes out from the 3rd welland canal.. to the right of this road is a trail to see more of the "older" locks for the 2nd and 3rd welland canal.. it also connects with the 4th welland canal that heads towards the entrance of the canal in port weller by port dalhousie.. it's confusing to write, you have to see it.
be careful it's steep in slippery for the paths on the right. the east portion of the tunnel if you park on the road by this bridge right by glendale ave, take the left path, it's a 2 hour walk from there to the swing bridge at lock 17.. go south, then south east down a path just past the golf course by the swing bridge.. its not marked.. there may be some blue paint on a tree on your right, look here for the path.. vegetation is DENSE in summer. best to go in spring, winter or late fall...

I was out there between 4 and 5 pm, and it got dark pretty fast. I didn't get a great picture of the gate they plan to blow up at lock 3 in jan 2011. I was too short and the fencing blocked off the access to the canal.
I found some interesting photos of big orbs.. now on the camera one of the photos of the base of the gate shows some ecto mist. I'll post the photos as well so you can see it.
Took these photos around 4 pm on jan 9, 2011. According to the news, one of the gates will be blown up (I think it's original date is around 1903.. not sure though) for the Lock 3 Construction project.
There was all sorts of equipment there too.

Videos 6, 7, 8 of the Welland Canal Wetland Series
oct 18 2010
Many people assumed it was because of a train wreck. The only thing is that the train wreck was about 100 feet away, so why would hundreds of ghosts haunt a tunnel, instead of the 2 men that died during the wreck? I reveal in the videos the history of the area and how I figured out where the ghosts were coming from.
The Welland Canal Wetland Video Series Quiz
March 12, 2011
I forget when I started to do this but once I bought my digital camera I went back to the blue ghost tunnel and the welland canal wetlands in and around canal #3 and #4 and did a video documentary of my findings.
I would have started this video series when doing the research but I didn't have my camera at the time.
It's interesting how I learn things as I go along.
I had all the facts mixed up, because PEOPLE told me the wrong stories.
Once I did the research, I started finding out that the tales and legends I had heard were a bit off the mark.
I haven't added to the series yet to clarify everything.
I will probably try and do that this summer 2011...
this is my first "documentary" series as a film producer :)

Tombstones at Lock 6 Pondage Area Across from Old Pump House and BGT
March 12, 2011
I heard stories from people talking about finding graves and tombstones near the blue ghost tunnel. Hamilton Paranormal even has photos of actual grave stones in the bottom of lock 6 which I wasn't able to get the same photos I got different tomb stones.
Now the area was quite dense and one day we were out walking ACROSS from the BGT and the Old Pump House and there was a photographer there taking some photos. We were talking about trying to find the old lakeview cemetery and he was kind enough to take us through the dense brush and show us an old tombstone from the early 1800s.
It's no longer there, In 2010 the St Lawrence Seaway cleared the area. I don't know what happened to the tombstone or the body lying under it.

Old Lakeview 200 year old Cemetery Discovery Quiz
March 12, 2011
Now in March 2009 they cleared away the dense brush and removed the tombstones and grave sites that we found in the video. Now it's just leveled land. I will be going out to do another video series this summer to see what they have done with the area.
It was very dense brush so the good thing is now you can get better photos and views of the welland canal wetlands and see the old lock 25 that is under water during spring, summer, and fall, and exposed when they empty out the lock 6 pondage area in the winter for repairs.
They used to wait till after march 25th each year to fill back the water, now they are doing it the first week of march while it's still snowing!
So we couldn't walk around out there this year and see how the lands changed.
I did notice in our photos in January 2011 that there seemed to be two more ravines down the central eastern part of the lock 6 pondage area. I would have to compare my photos with the older ones to see if I'm right about that.
As you remember back in June 2010 we had an earthquake tremble that went from Montreal, to St Catharines and Toronto, Ontario Canada. I was wondering if that new ravine was caused by it...

Bones and Casket Handle Discovery - St Catharines Standard Article Quiz
March 12, 2011
It was after reading about the article in the St Catharines Standard by Journalist Peter Downs - where a young man was out with his metal detector and he found the brass handle of a casket and some bones.
titled
"Thorold remains found on site of city's oldest cemetery st catharines"
The story was that they found the casket then unhearthed maybe 3 more that didn't have bones in them?
In all they moved several bones from graves found in the lock 6 pondage area.
the story was hush hush because the head of the St lawrence Seaway claimed that there were no graves there at all.. and then someone proved my theory..
rumor was that the same guy died of a heart attack a few months later.
I can't seem to find all the facts to this story and the standard only archives so many months of articles.
the only way you can read this one is on microfilm at the central public library here in st catharines ontario canada on church street, near james st and carisle st (see my downtown st catharines video series on igcentertainmentca on youtube for photos and directions to it)
so I read this story in the paper and I grab my camera and that's when we discovered the drained pondage area and some bones lying around on the ground.
From the research at the lock 3 museum there was 5 acres of land donated to St Peter's Church (the Old German church before that) back in the early 1900s.
I have most of the facts on here just use the "find" option on your browser with key words and it will go right to it, or check the index at the top.

Bones are discovered. Are they human?
In 2009 human bones and remains were discovered in this area.
There is more according to documents in the st catharines museum, there are 1000 unclaimed graves here on a parcel of 5 acres of burial grounds.
The spirits that haunt the blue ghost tunnel area have requested that they have a "proper burial." That is why they are unhappy and angry. That is why they tell people to go away when Paranormal Investigators search the area, looking for answers.
I asked what their unfinished business was. And their answer was "we want a proper burial."
I blessed their souls and asked for them to go to the other side.
They cannot rest though.
They want their remains moved to the Old Lakeside Cemetery where they should have been placed back in 1923.
I hope we can help them find peace so that their souls can be laid to rest.
The ghosts have been asking for help for 200 years and I have promised to help them fulfill their wish...
I have contacted St Peters Anglican Church and St Peter's Cemetery on Feb 20, 2010.
I hope they can fix this problem once and for all.

Directions : Thorold Stone Rd to Davis Rd to Old Thorold Stone Rd to Leslie St to Cemetery Rd. Follow the Bruce Trail along the NE side of the Old Lakeview Cemetery (cemetery parking lot closes at 5 p.m. park outside of the barriers and walk to this point) follow the trail along to the Quarry. You will see the two blue symbols on wood (gets dense brush in summer, hard to find, look for fence and dirt trail here)
We haven't gone down this trail to get to the East End of the blue ghost tunnel, too steep for us. We come up from the bottom and follow along the reeds there to it in the winter time. Haven't figured out an easier route in summer. Usually go over the Railway Bridge but thats dangerous in summer time.

Lock 6 Pondage Area Update - Lakeview Cemetery - March 8, 2010

One of these days I'll move the stuff over to the right site. :)
Returned the bones to lock 6 pondage burial grounds The spirit of George Keefer says thank you - feb 22 2010
ghosts, spirits, ancestors, st peters cemetery, the old german church, lakeview cemetery, linda randall
I called upon the spirits and souls in the universe, the one's who had contacted me in the summer of 2006 asking for a proper burial. I told them I've done all that I can do, now they have to take over. They have to rise up out of the ground when it thaws in March before the 31st and their human bones need to be found by someone so that they can be moved and buried to the proper cemetery up at the Old Lakeview Cemetery.
I've emailed the Anglican Diocese of Niagara - Serving South Central Ontario, Michael Patterson emailed me back and then forwarded an email to Brian Culp of St Peter's Cemetery (email address says that). Today I was told during my meditatioin I need to notify St John's Anglican Church ( google search reveals the name is Church of St John the Evangelist 1860) as well, they have ancestors buried in this cemetery all the way up to 1886. So I lay the bones to rest and began to pray and chant in an angelic tongue. It's an ancient language that I have and use when I pray. Some say it's tongues. I think it's the language of the ancient world, the angels. I often converse with angels during meditations or prayer time, asking for their assistance when I need them.
In this case, I'm asking the universe to help fulfill the wish of these spirits that desire to be laid to eternal , peaceful rest. They have been angry for the past 200 years. They haunt the blue ghost tunnel and the canal wetlands. In their anger back in the early 1900s they caused havoc during the building of the fourth welland canal. A few hundred people died from freak accidents in Lock 6. The men used to say that the gods and ghosts were angry so they killed people out of revenge. We will never know but since their burial ground has been desecrated this year, I wait to see if anything bad will happen again because of it. Unless they are content in knowing that someone listened to their pleas.
As I walked away I felt warm again, at peace within my soul. I looked up to the heavens and said "it is done." I have done my duty. Said my prayers, contacted the people that can help fix this wrong and hope for the best. Now it's in Gods, the universe and those spirits hands. I've even asked that the ancestors of the church leaders and cemetery people all be contacted by their great great grandparents ghosts. So if you have a dream from them and they give you a message, do what they tell you. They are trying to get some help. Only those who listen can help them.
I get back to the path, where Harold stood and prayed too. After feeling a warm presence past over me I asked Harold if anyone was there. (Harold can see ghosts) He told me that he saw a ghost of an old man. He was dressed like the people do in Little House on the Prarie. (I asked if the guy dressed like them) He had a black pipe with a brown tip on it in his mouth. It was a cherry smell of tobacco. (this same spirit has contacted other paranormal investigators when they came to this exact area but on the other side of the pondage area) He said "thank you for returning the bones to the graves. Thank you for your help. I've asked people for many years to help and no one ever did anything." then he smiled at Harold and walked over towards me . At that moment I felt a warmth surrounding me, like someone giving me a hug or something.
I feel relieved inside, I'm toasty and warm now and my house is warm again. Harold said the name "George" came to mind when I asked what the fella's name was.
When I got home I googled George st peters cemetery to find out if anyone by that name was connected. I found a photo and without telling Harold who it was I asked if he had ever seen this man. He said thats the man that was there, but he had those farmer clothes on.
The man identified as the ghost that haunts the st peters cemetery is that of George Keefer in 1836 he was named the church warden and trusteee of the burial grounds for St Peter's Burial Grounds.
I did a google search for more information. Now the strange thing is during my investigation of the welland ship canals, I went to Keefer Mansion and found photos with orbs and spirits in their own photo albums. I also found out that the house was haunted at one time. I found two gravestones on the property and a spirit told me it was from two children that had died there. One of the keefer's had two children die either during birth or shortly after. I haven't got all the details but I did tell them there was gravestones on the property. You can also see a grave marker along St Davids Rd W at the base of the hill at Keefer Mansion.
Here are my google notes - thanks to Hamilton Paranormal's website about Blue Ghost Tunnel here are their facts.

St Peter's Anglican Church & St Peters Cemetery - Feb 20, 2010
Emails, Michael Patterson, Brian Culp, Psychic Dreams, visions, linda randall, writing
I shared my story about the ghosts telling me they wanted a proper burial. I figured since it's the ancestors of this church congregation buried in this plot of land, they have a right to know what has been happening in the area.
When I discovered bones strewn across the dirt in the lock 6 pondage area which is just east of lock 7, I wasn't quite sure if they were human. The fact that I've been ICE COLD since finding them has affected me in some sort of way.
maybe it's the universe giving me a sign as to WHERE to dig and find the actual bones that belong to these loved ones that desire to be buried somewhere proper... like the Old Lakeview Cemetery up on the hill nearby.
I promised them I'd help any way that I could.
So for the past 24 hours I've been commanding that their bones rise up from the ground if they desire to be buried properly.
Prayers can work, with faith. I have lots of faith that these spirits deserve to find rest and peace once and for all. I promised them I'd help them get to where they belong. In a proper burial ground and not in some pondage area.
I believe that many deaths were caused by the spirits being angry. It's documented that back in the 1900s while building the fourth welland canal, many of the workers were terrified and said that Lock 6 was haunted by ghosts. There were several terrible accidents and deaths in this area according to the various newspaper clippings that I read while doing some research at the ST Catharines Museum at Lock 3.
I know that you the public will find it in your heart to pray along with me, that all those bones will rise up and be found so that they can be moved to the old lakeview cemetery. Hopefully some can be identified. I just wished that the 1000 unclaimed graves had been documented somewhere so that we could at least let the ancestors know where their loved ones are buried.
I was concerned when i found out that there are 100 letters sitting with the city about missing persons who came to work on the welland canal back in the 1900s and they disappeared without a trace. Their loved ones are still asking about them. If you can help in any way possible to identify the people that worked in the welland canal building, please contact the St Catharines Museum with photos or documents to be photocopied and put in their archives.
Sincerely
Linda Randall

Heres some food for thought. The Blue Ghost tunnel is in St Catharines yet it's listed as Thorold/Merritton in records/GM Plant 12 is right beside the Blue Ghost Tunnel and it's classified as St Catharines/ Niagara College which is 2 minutes away on Glendale Ave is listed as Niagara On The Lake and 5 minutes away is the Screaming tunnel (up on the hill behind Niagara College) and it's listed under NIagara Falls - All in the Niagara Region.
Anglican Diocese of Niagara has a registry of the graves.
The pondage area by The Old Pump House (near the Blue Ghost Tunnel) is where over 1000 people were buried in St Peter's Cemetery ( formerly called The Old German Church.) The unmarked graves have been buried under the concrete portion and the pondage area according to archive records of personal accounts of canal workers, engineering books and Canon Frederick Charles Piper of Thorold.
Canon Frederick Charles Piper of Thorold, Ontario's - St Peter's Church and Cemetery noted in his entries in the early 1800s that there were1000 graves but only 916 were registered with people's names.
In those days people had identification tags, some were unidentified and buried in St Peter's Cemetery and listed under the unmarked graves registry of names.
Some historical newspaper report that 250 of the graves were moved to the Old Part of Lakeview Cemetery (The newer part is across the road.)
Lakeview cemetery records only reports 100 graves moved from St Peter's to the Old Part of the Cemetery giving location and names of deceased, and according to the St Catharines Museum Archives - Canon Frederick Charles Piper documented only 200 graves were moved from St Peter's Cemetery to the Old Lakeview Cemetery.
Now in 2009, according to The Standard, the Seaway claims there were no persons buried in the pondage area, yet in March/April of 2009 several graves were found and the remains removed by archeologists investigating the area. They plan to re-open their investigation in the winter of 2010 when the area is drained again.
I reported one Train accident 100 ft from The Blue Ghost Tunnel, there were over 123 documented canal workers freak deaths during the building of the 4th Welland Canal. There is many more deaths not reported because at the time the people did not have their identification tags, so they were buried in unmarked graves in several places along the Welland Canal.
Canal workers that fell into the concrete (locks) while being poured are unaccounted for but noted in the list of casualties at the St Catharines Museum - The 4th Welland Canal.
I have been doing lots of research and I share what I read about. I just found some more documents listed at The Toronto Public Library online under Jubilee History of Thorold (1878) written by John H Thompson, Thorold and Beaverdams Historical Society (Toronto Public Library)
***interesting Census of 1835, Canal Towns and Fenian Raids are in this book***
It also states they attempted to build an underground canal before 1829 but failed.

- Eee, that's kind of eerie to think about! Some campuses have tunnels that are used for shortcuts. Those are usually nice, but now that I know this, not sure I'm going to walk through a tunnel in quite the same way anymore. Eeep!

THE LUTHERAN CHURCH - THE GERMAN CHURCH THOROLD
UP NEAR THE PUMP HOUSE

janet Carnochan was born in 1839 in Stamford, C.W, ( Canada West ) and educated in Niagara. She was the principal of the Public School for six years and teacher in the high school for twenty-two years. She was secretary of the Public Library, the oldest in Ontario, for thirty-five years. She was foundress of the Niagara Historical Society and its president until her death. She was the curator of the Memorial Museum and author of the History of Niagara and many pamphlets on local historical subjects.
The following was described by By the late Janet Carnochan in her publication "Graves and Inscriptions in the Niagara Peninsula"
In the register kept by Rev. Wm. Leeming, of Stamford and Chippawa, is often mentioned as the place of marriage, burial, or baptism, the "German Church," and here near Thorold is the graveyard, although the church no longer exists, as it was taken down to make way for the new canal.
Many of the bodies buried here were removed to the beautiful new cemetery, but the greater part of the old graveyard remains. The site is fine, undulating ground, almost hill and valley. While copying inscriptions in this city of the dead it was strange to see a vessel passing so close to us that we could hear every word spoken.
The church was built chiefly by the exertions of George Keefer, whose history is the history of the early days of Thorold, he having been the earliest settler. His body was removed with the old stone which bears the simple inscription:
"Sacred to the memory of George Keefer, born in Sussex County, colony of New Jersey, Nov. 8th, 1773, died at Thorold, June 28th, 1858, aged 84 years."
He was the director of the Welland Canal Co., and turned the first sod. In the history of Thorold are the picture£ of himself, his two wives, and fifteen children. His first wife was Catharine Lampman, and here no doubt is a memorial of an ancestor of the gifted poet Lampman, who died lately at Ottawa:
"In memory of Peter Lampman, who died in 1834, aged 86. He came from New York to this province in 1783 with his family and has resided fifty years in the township of Niagara. He was always a pious, faithful and respectable member of the German Lutheran Church."
In the marriage record of the Stamford Associate Church nearly all the licenses were granted by Robert Grant, Esq., and here is his grave:
"Sacred to the memory of Robert Grant, Esq., born at Inverness, Scotland, 16th Nov., 1776, died at Queenston, U. C., 16th May, 1838. This monument is erected by his daughter Christina, wife of Jacob Keefer, Esq., of Thorold."
Here occur the wellknown names of Ball, Clement Hoover, Seburn, Field, Ker.
Walter H. Ball died in 1822, and Jane Catharine Ball in 1818, while Henry Clement Ball, born in 1789, and Mary Ball, born in 1796, must have been born here soon after the family came, in 1782; Charity Ann Hoover was buried here in 1829, Margaret Hoover in 1826, and Jacob Ball in 1819.
March 1st., 1889 - Railway Horror - Ten Persons Killed and Thirty Injured:
A Grand Trunk Express drops through a bridge.
On Wednesday evening Thorold was thrown into consternation by a report that the fast express, which passes Merriton eastward bound without stopping about 7:40 each evening, had gone through a high bridge near St. George, which is the first station beyond Harrisburg. The wildest rumours were afloat, but the morning papers yesterday brought presumably correct reports, from which we condense :
The large iron bridge collapsed, carrying with it the latter part of the train, consisting of the dining car, a Pullman and a first-class coach. The rest of the train crossed in safety. Of those three cars two fell to the ground, namely, the dining car and the coach, while the Pullman hangs suspended from the bridge, which broke about the fourth strand from the end. The bridge is an iron trestle with stone abutments, about 300 feet long. The occupants of the two cars, which were pretty well crowded, were hurled below to a depth of 60 feet, and most of them who were not killed outright were mangled in a shocking manner.
The number of killed as far as learned is ten, while the wounded will probably reach the number of thirty.

December 7th., 1888 - Terrible Railway Smashup at Merriton:
http://www.adventuresniagara.ca/pages/gtr.shtml
Another has been added to the long list of catastrophies, more than one of them attended with loss of life, which have occured at the Merriton station of the Grand Trunk Railway. On Monday morning last, about 12:30 o'clock, as the engine of a train from the bridge, detached from its train, was taking water at the tank, the driver saw a long train of coal cars, twenty-five or thirty in number, coming down the Welland railway incline, evidently out of control. The driver at the tank undertook to get his engine out of the road, but there was no time, so he and his fireman jumped to save their lives, and in less time than it takes to write it the runaway train was upom him with such fearful force as to send his engine nearly down to the Niagara Central crossing. The engine of the runaway train was overturned, and the whole train, with an awful crash, was piled into an indescribable mass on and beside the track. The scene immediately after baffles all attempts at description. Trucks were driven into the ground nearly out of sight. The woodwork was splintered into matchwood, and the stacks of coal that were mixed through only served to make the confusion the greater.
Though the wholesale destruction of property is saddening, yet much more so is the loss of life, and this time three was the number of the human victims, all belonging to the runaway train, viz., engineer J. Williams of Niagara Falls, and old employee, 62 years of age, who leaves a widow and grown family ; fireman M. Sherry, a widower, leaving two small children ; and brakeman Allen of Hamilton. All the bodies were fearfully mutilated, and many of the bystanders were unable to stand the sight as the remains were extricated by the wreckers, a wrecking train soon being on hand.
It is said that engineer Williams lost control of his train above Thorold, and numbers of Thorold people heard the danger whistle as the train rushed past. Some of the remarks past by the railway men while working at the wreck were very suggestive, and indicated that a far greater number of accidents were very narrowly escaped than the public had any idea of.
It is supposed that the company's loss on property alone will not be covered by $50,000.
An inquest was held by coroner Goodman the same afternoon ; and after taking the evidence of a large number of witnesses, mostly railroaders, the following verdict was reached :
That the deceased, James Williams, Michael Sherry and Robert Allan, came to their death by a collision between trains Nos. 471 and 551, near Merriton, about 12:30 a.m., on December 3rd. The cause of the collision we believe to be from not having sufficient brakes on train 471 to control it : also, that the engineer did not reverse or alarm, and that the rear brakeman was inexperienced. We further find that all freight trains should be brought to a standstill above the grade at Thorold : that an additional brakeman should be provided on all freight trains descending this grade, and a special switchman be appointed to attend to the switch known as the welland Railway switch.
The Coroner, in summoning up, expressed the opinion that, apart from the loss of lives in such accidents, which were numerous at Merriton, the interest on the money lost by the company, by suck smashups, would pay the wages of extra men required on switches and trains for over 100 years.

- AIR DISASTER LOCK 15 THOROLD SEPT 16,1929
- St. Catharines, Ont., Sept. 16, 1929-- Three of the six victims of the passenger plane crash near Lock 15 of the Welland Canal, Saturday, will be buried today.

http://hamiltonparanormal.com/tunnel.html
As reported by the Daily Standard dated January 3rd 1903........
The headlines flashed across the front cover "BAD TRAIN WRECK, No.4 Express Collides with a light Mogul Near Merritton Tunnel." (Known today as the "Blue Ghost Tunnel")
"On the Grandtrunk rail line near Merritton a serious and fatal accident occurred near the Merritton Tunnel today. The accident occurred around 7:03am at a point about 100 yards from the tunnels western entrance. Engine Number 975 was an 80 ton mogul train to leave from Niagara falls at 6:00am each morning and run through to Hamilton .
Engine Number 4 express train was one of the best and fastest trains on the G.T. R. and was scheduled to arrive in Merritton at 6:28am. The Engineer's name was Duke and the fireman that manned the boiler was Abraham Desult both from Sarnia. As nearly as can be learned it was 7:03 am when the ill-fated express train passed a small telegraph station near the tunnel,
A few moments later and almost one third of a mile down the track the engine of the express train and the light mogul train met with a terrible crash. Both engines at the time of the collision were in full steam when they met head on. The accident happened on a sharp curve where both engineers could not see each other for a distance of 200ft. The estimated speed of both trains were about 22MPH at the time of the collision.
Both engineers escaped with only broken limbs and minor cuts to face and arms while Mr. Charles Horning (firemen) for the express train was killed instantly. The reporter described the condition of the body as being jammed between the boiler and tentler, his body was horribly mangled. When rescuers went to pull on the limbs of the man to try to free him they broke off. When some of the remains were taken away, his mid section was so tightly wedged between the tentler and boiler that his remaining body could not be pulled free. It was even noted that his watch on one of his arms was still working......
The other firemen (Abraham Desult) from the mogal train was smashed into the boiler of the train, and received burns to 90% of his body. He was rushed to the St.Catharines General Hospital were he died 5 hours after the accident."
The entrance to the tunnel that one can explore today was the side where the accident had happened. The trains did not collide in the tunnel as most folks had thought. It happened about 100 yards from the entrance of the tunnel just beyond the path we walk down to get to the BGT.....
The spirit of the two firemen could be part of the paranormal activity that is found at the BGT today .......
663 GRAVES IN THE PONDAGE AT THE OLD PUMP HOUSE
http://hamiltonparanormal.com/tunnel.html

At this time the cemetery was called the "Old Cemetery" formerly "The Grave Yard" formerly "St. Peters Burial Grounds" formerly " The Lutheran Burial Place" then formerly "The Old German Church Cemetery"
By the early 1920's came the final blow to the cemetery when it was decided upon to build a new canal that would be later called the Fourth Welland Canal. This would require that the area occupied by the Old Cemetery and once the site of St. Peters Church be covered by a canal pondage area.
The call went out for any persons having relatives in the Old Cemetery to arrange to have their remains moved to the new Lakeview Cemetery. Those that made claims to have their loved ones moved got underway by July 1923. This would make the cemetery 150 years old by this date. Total graves that were in the cemetery was numbered at 913 graves, the oldest one being that of a Hannah Lampton, Buried in 1793. Many of these graves were that of the United Loyalists and their entire families. The government at the time that was to perform the removal of the graves stated "Graves that were not claimed or those without markers would remain in the grave yard."
By the time all was said and done a total of 250 graves had been removed out of 913 graves, leaving a total of 663 graves that are still in the area that is now under water in the pondage area by the Blue Ghost Tunnel.
TOMBSTONE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PONDAGE NEAR BGT
http://hamiltonparanormal.com/tunnel.html

It is unbelievable to think that anyone could just flood over a grave site with bodies still buried in the ground. The old graveyard is nothing more than a watery grave site for all those who were once prominent citizens of the township of Thorold, Ontario. To us this is a great injustice that should have never happened.
Ghostly Encounters at The Blue Ghost Tunnel
It was May 5th of 2008 - Written by Linda Randall April 30,2009
Now i took several pics that night and we found a ghost portal and there must have been 20 little ghost heads in this pic, with loads of orbs. It was strange seeing orbs for the first time in my life. Before that day, I really had my doubts about ghosts. Now I totally believe in them!
The worse thing is, that I took those pictures Last Year and now I can't seem to find them. I think they are on one of my 6 cell phones, that I've bought in the past 2 years. I was always trying out new gadgets and better camera's ergo the many cell phones. My newest phone has an mp3 player * no idea how to work it* and lousy camera! Don't buy the 8600 LG Chocolate phone if you want decent picks! My LG 245 was great, I didn't realize it had internet on it. I wanted a bigger screen to look at because our friend Paul had gotten an iphone and well I wanted one but couldn't afford it, so I took the next best thing. Wrong idea! Complete waste of $300 that I have ever spent on the phone. It's okay though, I got a great deal on the phone plan so I just take pics now with a digital camera (plastic lens is lousy). I'm saving up and planning to buy a better camera so I can do some serious ghost hunting in the future!
We are also looking at other sites in and around St Catharines that possibly might be haunted. I will be posting pics on here or make new sites and post the URL here.

- Paranormal Research Investigations (PRI) had an experimental session to photograph "orbs". Members of the group suspected that the paranormal anomalies often called orbs, which many people see in photographs, are, in fact, optical phenomena; that is, reflections from airborne particles. Group members attempted to validate this assumption by replicating orbs in photographs using materials prepared by the group.
An orb is considered "typical" when it is round, white and concentric circles are visible on the inside. Below are three photos in which "typical" orbs are pictured. - THE ORB ZONE

The opposite end of the tunnel is flooded and harder to access. The tunnel is a lurer of bush parties, paranormal activists, or crazy adventurers. The tunnel is inaccessible to vehicles, other than motorcycles and ATVs. It is known by many people as the "Blue Ghost Tunnel", due to sightings of a blue ghostly form that appears female, and has also been the hotspot for seeing and hearing ghosts from inside the tunnel.
- PHOTOSHOP BLUE GHOST TUNNEL
- Yesterday I posted an image of huge icicles inside the Grand Trunk Tunnel near Thorold. Locals call it The Blue Ghost Tunnel. (Apparently the tunnel was built near a cemetery that was flooded during the making of The Welland Canal.) I was trying to get a hand-held image of the icicles but the light level was too low. The image I got appeals to me due to its ghostly, whispy nature.
- IDEAS ABOUT LIFE TODAY - ENCOUNTERS WITH GHOSTS THE BLUE GHOST TUNNEL
- I have posted an article about personal encounters with ghosts and created a website about "The Blue Ghost Tunnel", "The Screaming Tunnel", and "The Ghosts of the Welland Canal." Some of these tales were shown on "Creepy Canada" the favorite TV show of most people who are into the paranormal. It is some theories, some facts, pictures of real ghosts, and orbs. You will also be able to read newspaper articles from the early 1900's about the disasters caused by these ghosts at "The Blue Ghost Tunnel" and "The Welland Canal." The Ghost Encounters and Can you Capture Ghosts and Spirits on Camera are on my site on Helium. The Blue Ghost Tunnel website is on Squidoo.
- PARANORMAL PHOTO GALLERY
- The wife and I went to an old cemetery and took several pictures and didn't think much of anything until I took one just out of the blue toward an old tree and headstone. When the flash went off, my wife saw a form of mist in front of the camera. Then I looked at the picture and to my surprise this is what we got. There is a red orb with a tail in the middle of the picture. As I took the picture, there was a chill that went through my whole body. This is one of the first times we went out and from now it will not be the last.
- GHOST VILLAGE
- I can tell you, true spirit orbs have appeared in many different colors. But, as with most colored orb pictures, they can be pretty easily explained, like what krc offered. If you can post he picture, we would like to take a look at it. Try posting it in the spiritography section, and I am sure you will get many responses.

- AMERICAN FOLKLORE SCREAMING TUNNEL ONTARIO
- There is a tunnel under the old railroad tracks just to the west of the Queen Elizabeth Way in Niagara Falls. It is known locally as the Screaming Tunnel. A path wanders through the tunnel and then up to an empty field on the hill. But the field was not always empty.
