The first step in starting a home based business is to find a business that complements your strengths and natural gifts. You can greatly reduce the time and frustration in your research by first creating a personal vision of what you want. If you don't have a clear and defined vision you may end up investing signiciant time and money in building a business that doesn't meet your expectations. The clearer your vision the more likely you will succeed and build a profitable and fulfilling business. Most Moms looking to work from home are either eager to escape their current circumstances at work or anxious to pay off debt. The danger for these moms is that they run the risk of making a major investment of time and money without excercising the prudence necessary when evaluating different business models.
Next you need to ensure that the company has a product that people want and desire. In other words it needs to be a quality product that is going to lead to repeat business. The age old method of word of mouth is often the best means of learning if the product is worthwhile or not. Or better yet, if you're going to make a major investment of yourself, why not try the product yourself?
The next step is ensuring there is a viable marketplace in which there is a demand for the product. Other important questions to ask oneself are...Is the industry growing? What are the market trends for the industry? Is their some long term potential market share to be gained within the next few decades?
Finally, Moms need to understand that starting a home based business for Moms is no small task. It is essential that the company you go with provides the ongoing support and trainingneeded to succede. Does the company offer any type of online training? You should pick a company with the "heart of a teacher."
In summary, in order for your business to succede a good company should meet the following criteria..
1. Matches your Personal Vision
2. Product that people want and desire
3. Viable Marketplace
4. Ongoing Support and Training
An Industry Exploding with Growth
Since 1980 the company I work for has been a pioneer and leader in the health and wellness industry, an industry responsible for retail sales of $91.10 billion 2006, according to the 2006 annual Natural Marketing Institute (NMI). What is especially exciting about the report was the fact that the fastest growing segment was the "Natural/Organic Personal Care" segment at $6.05 billion (24% growth). Furthermore this segment is expected to double to $15 billion by 2011.Why this fantastic growth? Primarily because of the growth of the Baby Boomer generation which are the largest growing demographic who are most concerned with health and wellness issues.
Timing is everything, and today more than any other time period presents an ideal opportunity to start a home based business for Moms within this exploding segment of our economy.
