The Colorful Bee Gifts, A big dream for a great reason

This lens is to help get the word out about my Etsy Shop, The Colorful Bee. My shop was started in late April 2008, to feature my gift items made right here in my home. In May, I decided to clearance everything except the crocheted items so that the shop has one theme "crocheted gifts made with love". Because crocheting is one thing that I truely do Love... I hope that you like what you see in my shop and I would like to thank you for stopping by.

THE COLORFUL BEE'S HIVE

It all started with a dream...

The Colorful Bee was started with a dream, one very dear to my heart, one that I hope to fulfill someday very soon. My youngest son and I were sitting down in our "art" room one day and he says "why don't you sell all the stuff you crochet? You have so much just sitting around and you keep making more." I explained to him that I crocheted because I love to , it relaxes me and I love to see how my projects turn out in the end, just like when he draws pictures. He then tells me "if you sell them and make more and keep selling them, you can quit work and be at home to help me more with my reading." I almost cried. I couldn't sleep that night or the next, worried if I had failed him in some way or another. Now, to get you to understand why he said that, let me say this; he is 9 years old, very smart, very, very talented in drawing yet he suffers from dyslexia, such as I do. After nemerous trips to the eye doctors, glasses, tutoring, extra work, reading everyday and anything else we can come up with, he still ended up being held back into the third grade this year because he only reads at a late 1st grade-early 2nd grade level. Everything else is wonderful, just reading really gets him. And he gets really upset when he can't read a word, so his self-esteem is really low.
After a long talk with him a few days after the selling of my crochet discussion; I asked for his advice. Did he think that my crocheted gifts were good enough to sell and if he did, was he willing to help my with orders if I paid him. I explained to him that he would have to "read" the emails for the orders and send out invoices for me so that I had time to crochet more. He said "Mommy I can't read" and my reply to him was "well I guess your new job will be extra training for reading then, won't it." He smiled and said "yes it will. I have a job now!". So, thus became The Colorful Bee and the dream to stay at home to tutor him and give him all the support I can. Together I know that he will be just fine and a great reader by the end of this coming school year.

So, if your on the web, just looking around, please check out my shop. I'm sure there's something there that you will just love. Help this Mommy be home with her children, please.

New sales avenue for me!

Hi everyone! I am happy :) to inform you that I have been accepted at the local weekend market as a vendor. It is a very nicely set up and organized sales market. They only allow one or two vendors of each type of product and I got chosen as the one for crocheted items!

I will be among some of our local areas great artists featuring soaps, jewelry, paintings, photographs, jellies, fruit and veggies, leather works and much more. And now... ME!

I will continue to sell my items on Etsy, this is just another money generating avenue for me. And another way to get my products and name out in front of the public! This is a very affordable way to market my handmade items, being only $5.00 a week to sell there. The only setback is that you have to commit for the entire 7 months, every Saturday. It's in a local park, right on the main highway, so there's a wonderful view while you shop as well as a great playground for the kids to visit!

Come see me at the Market In The Park on Saturday mornings from 8 to 11, April through November in Pass Christian, MS! I look forward to seeing you all there!

I love your work. I'm only into making blankets or pillow cases. I really do not know how to make anything else but I know that the more that I do, I'll get better at it but you top everything. Great work and God Bless!
