My Favorite Color is the Color Purple
I just love the color purple!
I find it extremely soothing and incredibly spiritual. I love surrounding myself with purple things, some of which you'll find below.
I created this lens out of a challenge in Rocket Moms, which I'm a part of. The challenge was to create a lens about something I'm passionate about. We were asked to list three things we're passionate about (mine were spirituality, personal growth and learning) and then create lens related to it. This lens on the color purple is what resulted for me! It incorporates my passion of spirituality, a color I love, and many more things that I'm passionate about (as well as things I think of when I think of the color purple) . . . as you'll see when you read through the lens!
You'll learn about meanings associated with the color purple and be sure to check out the hilarious video about words that rhyme with purple. Do any even exist??
Enjoy!

Purple Amethyst Crystals

Amethyst crystals are one of my favorite crystals, along with Celestite. I love the color, the shape (especially amethyst geodes and clusters) and the energy.
Color: Amethyst crystals can be anywhere from a light lavender shade to a deep, dark purple. And multiple shades can co-exist in one crystal.
Shape:: Amethyst crystals can be in the form of geodes, clusters or single points. They can also be manufactured into other shapes.
Energy: Energetically, amethyst is associated with both the brow and crown chakras. It is known as a protective, tranquilizing stone. It facilitates meditation, higher states of consciousness, spiritual awareness and insight. It opens intuition. There's just something about an amethyst geode that connects me to the spiritual and a geode also connects me with the earth . . . which is also spiritual.

Meaning of the Color Purple: Spirituality
The color purple is often associated with spirituality. Spirituality is a common, general, almost universal meaning related to the color purple . . . yet, spirituality is a very individual thing and the specific associations will be unique to each person.
One way that purple holds spiritual meaning for me is that it's associated with the brow and crown chakras. The brow chakra, represented by the color indigo, has to do with knowledge, insight, imagination, discernment and wisdom. The crown chakra, represented by the color violet, has to do with spiritual understanding and connection.

Spiritual Coaching

In the picture above, you can see spirals in addition to the purple color. Spirals are very significant for me in the coaching that I do, which is termed "spiritual coaching." And because it's spiritual, purple is also significant since it symbolizes spirituality.
Spirals symbolize spirit, intuition, getting to the core of the issue, coming into being, the journey of life, wisdom, the process of learning and growing, and it's related to the circle (oneness, wholeness, unity, the infinite, spirit, mother earth, sacred space, the womb and life/death/rebirth).
Spiritual coaching is a style of coaching. It's about tapping into the power center within myself and within my client. This power center might be termed inner guidance, intuition, gut, heart, wisdom, spirit, or a number of other terms (see how it's related to the spiral?). It's different from the "head," yet reasoning, strategizing and knowledge (head-oriented terms) are also used. It's not about spiritual beliefs or religion unless the client wants to be coached specifically in that area - - I have my own beliefs and so do my clients. It's just a style. Basically, I'm guided by my inner wisdom and I work with my clients to discover their own inner wisdom.
The spiral symbolizes this process for me in several ways. It symbolizes the fact that I coach from my gut, out. It represents the fact that I get to the core of the issue (one of my strengths). It shows that I work with clients to get to their inner core and then help them move out from there. It symbolizes that I work with the core aspects of things, which I call building blocks (I'm the Building Blocks Coach). And it also illustrates a part of my coaching that I can focus on if the client wants to (moving from an awareness of self to an awareness of Self and interconnectedness, which then results in a ripple effect outward to the entire planet.
The main topics I coach on are: 1) mindset, 2) learning, loving and living who you are (thanks to my friend Julie Watson Smith for the "learning, loving and living"), and 3) network marketing.
Purple Children's Books
. . . or Children's Books About the Color Purple

You might be asking, "What in heaven's name do children's books have to do with the color purple?"
Well, as an elementary school teacher . . . a lot!
I love kid's books . . . and many of them have to do with color. One of my favorite kid's books is Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse and one of my favorite quotes comes from this book, if you can believe it! The quote is: "Sometimes all you can do is say, 'Wow.'" I love that and it's true!
You can see some other kid's books about purple below.

Purple, Green and Yellow (Annikins)
Remember the "super-indelible-never-come-off-til-you're-dead" markers? Yep, that comes from this book. It's so much fun!
Meaning of the Color Purple: Mystery
Purple is often associated with mystery.
This meaning is clearer with dark purples than with lighter shades, just because of the depth and darkness. Depth and darkness are a bit mysterious.
But all purples are a mixture of two very opposite colors - - red and blue. And this is what makes it a mysterious color. Red is hot, passionate, energetic and aggressive. Blue is cool, tranquil, calming and secure. The two colors combined create the mystery of the color purple.
Purple Eggplant

The shade of purple called "eggplant" is one of my favorite shades, along with amethyst.
As a vegan, eggplant (also called aubergine) is one of my favorite veggies as well. It's awesome in veggie lasagna, incredible on the barbeque, and it's great made into a dip for veggies, chips or crackers (called Baba Ghanoush).
Did you know that the eggplant is actually a berry? Interesting.
It's also a member of the nightshade family, which also includes tomatoes and potatoes. Nightshade plants grow in the shade of the night, not in the light of the sun like most plants.

Purple Candles

There are many colors of candles, of course. And I love most of them! You can learn about candles that are great for fall, about natural candles in general and about my candle business.
Right now I'm just looking at purple candles!
These purple candles are natural veggie wax candles with natural cotton wicks, so they're green candles too!
Some really awesome smelling purple candles are Hyacinth, Sangria, Lilac, Lavender & Sweet Pea.

Purple Flowers

I love purple flowers. I remember crocuses in my childhood in the spring time. Gerbera daisies are my favorite. And, of course, I love the smell of lilacs. I can imagine the smell as I think about being outside in the spring and summer, walking through neighborhoods. I like to keep fresh flowers in my house as much as I can . . . and they're usually pinks and purples. It's amazing to me the assortment of purples - - from red-purples like the Gerbera daisy below to the deep blue-purple of the pansy and from the light, delicate color of the lilac to the dark purple of the hyacinth.

Meaning of the Color Purple: Royalty
OK. This is REALLY interesting. Apparently, the word "purple" comes from the Old English word "purpul" . . . which comes from the Latin word "purpura" . . . which comes from the Greek word "porphyra" . . . which is the name of the ancient dye (called Tyrian purple) that was used to make things purple. The dye was made from mucus secretions from the gland of a snail. The snail and its dye became associated with royalty because only the very wealthy could afford it! Too funny.

Hurple and kurple are, in fact, real words. Seriously. Google them. They're Scottish words. Kurple can also be found in the Urban Dictionary - a place for fun and bizarre definitions.
Purple Sharpie Markers

I am a total office supply nerd. I love sticky notes, pens, Sharpie markers, note pads, paper clips, binder clips, folders, paper . . . pretty much everything! If it's purple, it's even better!

Purple Grapes

Purple grapes are a favorite fruit of mine. They're actually a berry, but they aren't usually though of that way, I don't think.
I love eating grapes as is, or in fruit salads. For an interesting snack to add some variety, try them frozen. They're great. Just take them off the vine, wash them, place them in a freezer container, put them in the freezer and let them freeze!

Purple Crayons

My love of crayons kind of goes along with my love of office supplies. It's partly due to being a teacher . . . and partly due to just loving that stuff! When I was a kid, I loved all the purple shades of crayons.

Meaning of the Color Purple: Bravery & Courage
In the U.S., the purple heart is given to individuals serving in the military who have been wounded or killed. It represents bravery and courage and that's why the color purple often symbolizes bravery.

- This lens is GORGEOUS! I really disliked purple my entire life until about two years ago. I think it is a maturing color and represents a lot of change in positive thinking. Now I absolutely love it and strangely 'appreciate' the color if that makes sense at all. This lens was so beautiful and so informative and I did NOT know that eggplant is a berry! lol Maybe that's why I love it.
