  • Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) -Do you use mousse to style your hair or foaming products to shave? Well if they contain Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS) or ammonium lauryl sulphate, I would look for a better option. SLS can be contaminated during th manufacturing process with a carcinogen call 1,4-dioxane.
  • Cocamide DEA (Diethanolamine)-Listed by the EPA as "likely to cause cancer in humans"-DEA is found in many shampoos, lotions and creams.
  • Formaldehyde-If you like to keep a top notch manicure on a regular basis you are likely exposing yourself to a carcinogen. The mask that the manicurist wears are on for a reason. Formaldehyde is found in almost all cosmetic nail polish, cigarettes, pressed wood products and some household cleaners.
  • Parabens-Preservatives derive from the Paraben family ie:Methyl Paraben, Butyl Paraben, or Propyl Paraben. Preservatives can bind to estrogen receptors and have been found in the tumors of patients who have experienced breast cancer. Over 90% of cosmetics contain Parabens as well as shampoos, conditioners, sunscreen and deodorants.
  • Propylene Glycol, commonly used in deodorants, toothpaste and other personal care products display general warnings about coming into contact with skin. It has the potential to cause liver and kidney problems as well as brain disorders.

    Sodium Lauryl Sulfate(SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS) are primary cleansers which are independently strong. They are made from palm oil and SLES undergoes a chemical reaction that results in the toxic formations. SLS is usually the harsher irritant. The evidence to distinguish the difference between the two is not clearly noted. Some people would argue that SLS and SLES are not carcinogens, but is that a chance you would want to take?
