Billy Sianis is said to have placed this
curse on the Chicago Cubs on October 6th, 1945 during game 4 of the 1945 World Series during the seventh inning when he was asked to leave and take his billy goat with him.
It seems that Mr Sianis was very fond of goats. He took his beloved goat "Billy" with him to many other games - and paid for the goat's seat. He probaby bought it something to eat, because goats will eat anything (they do!), he probably bought it something to drink, etc. He was allowed to parade it around in the field with a sign around it's neck stating "We have got Detroit's Goat!"
According to Sianis's family he is said to have sent a telegram to Philip K. Wrigley, the owner of the Cubs, that said "You are going to lose this World Series and you are never going to win another World Series again. You are never going to win a World Series again because you insulted my goat".
While the Cubs have appeared in the World Series since then they have not won a World Series since 1908.
