A Collection Of Things That I've Learned About Squidoo This Past Year
I'm putting these things here, mostly so that I have a place to come write more things that I learn as I go, but also in the hopes that I can save you some frustration as well.
I'm thinking, if I can help you avoid my mistakes, then I've done well. Even if you don't learn from my mistakes, at least I've created a catalog that I can come visit to see which mistakes I'm making again.
It Takes Work
Yes, I said that 4 letter word
Believe that. Live it. Love it. If you don't love it, learn to deal with it.
I think this was one of my biggest hurdles. I thought that it was easy to make a lens. Let me rephrase that. Making a lens is easy, making a quality lens will take some work.
I can't claim this phrase as my own. Mr. Godin said it, I'm just repeating it. It takes hard work to make a good lens and it takes time to get results.
I just saw a blog post from some guy that created 500 lenses over the last 18 months. I haven't looked at all his lenses, but I can tell you that it takes time to create 500 lenses and I can guarantee you that he did not create them overnight.
This lens may not make sense to anyone but me. However, whatever lens you make, it needs to make sense and be written properly. Think about submitting something to ezine articles. If you were to turn your lens into an article, would ezine articles accept it?
I guess there's some circular logic in this point.
This was another biggie for me. The thing to remember, is that they can't pay you, until they collect their money. That means that it could take 45-60 days or more before the squidoo peeps can pay you any money you've earned.
Did I mention this already? I made the mistake of thinking that if I put up a lens, it would get picked up by Google and people would click here and click there and I'd be making tons of money. Then, reality hit.
Yes, you can, and some people do, make thousands of dollars a month from squidoo. Many of those people make money from affiliate offers, others make money from the shared revenue and so on, but they all hustle.
You can't just be passive about earning money on your own from Squidoo or anywhere else. You get paid for performance, and if you don't perform, you don't get paid.
