I have been making The Handcrafted Cross for many years and have occasionally thought about selling it. I always dropped the idea when I thought about how much time it took me to make one. I knew I could never make them fast enough to fill the orders in a timely fashion.

Recently, I needed to seriously consider doing something to supplement my husband's income because of the economy. This time when I thought about making and selling The Handcrafted Cross, an awesome idea started forming in my head. New ideas have been coming to me, pretty much non-stop, for the past couple of weeks.

The big idea that formed was to talk to my friends and tell them what I wanted to do. Then I asked them all if they could use some extra money to supplement their incomes. They all said they needed a little extra. I explained what was involved in creating just one cross. There are 4 basic steps to creating the cross and the first 3 of those steps can be done by anyone. So, I have come up with a way to take a portion of what would have been my profit and divide it between those 3 steps. Everyone I spoke to was only interested in 1 or 2 of the steps - and they are all easy to learn. I will teach everyone how to do each step and each person can choose how much they want to do depending on how much extra money they want to make and how much time they have available.

They won't be employees, they will be independent contractors. They will be earning money per piece, not by the hour. Crafts, such as The Handcrafted Cross, cannot be sold for a high enough price to hire employees. Everyone is excited about the possibliities of earning extra money to meet their needs. Some of the people I spoke with are like me and want to supplement their own income. I have also spoken to church groups and school clubs and they are interested in working to make money so their groups can do things or so they can help their school or church.

The idea of wanting to do something to supplement my husband's income has turned into the possibility of many people being able to supplement their incomes. I have created 8 new designs that I am selling as do-it-yourself kits. I believe these will sell because they are less expensive that The Handcrafted Cross I started this business with. It also allows people to add their own creative touch and make a truly personal gift for their loved ones. I started out with a dream to supplement our income and it has turned into an exciting adventure that will not only help me, but many others, too. I truly want it to succeed because it is the dream of Not Just One, But Many!
