Would You Let Him into Your Car?

This is a remake of the 1986 film of the same name starring Rutger Hauer as the hitcher. In this updated story Jim and Grace, two 20 something college students who are heading out for Spring Break to meet up with a few of Grace's friends. On the first night of driving it is pouring rain and Jim nearly runs over a creepy guy standing in the rain next to a vehicle with hazard lights on. They don't stop to pick him up.

Later at a gas station, the guy shows up and after an awkward moment asks Jim for a lift. Instead of saying no Jim allows the man to get into their car. The hitcher is immediately inappropriate freaking out Jim. It isn't long before the hitcher pulls a knife on Grace and tells Jim he wants to hear him say, "I want to die". Jim succumbed by fear begins to say the words but ends up slamming on the breaks and screaming "I don't want to die!" The hitcher's head makes contact with the windshield and with Grace's help they roll him out of the vehicle and speed away.

You would think Jim and Grace would be home-free at this point but the hitcher keeps showing up every where they go leaving carnage behind that keeps implicating Jim and Grace to gruesome murders. Soon the police are after the young students who are at this point only trying to stay alive.

Sounds pretty good doesn't it?

The most notable features about this movie are Sean Bean who plays the hitcher and the special effects in one scene where a man is torn in two by a semi truck. The movie tries too hard to make you jump and build suspense. It's leading and predictable (other than the scene where Jim and Grace have left the police station and are wandering in the desert. A few minutes later the truck the hitcher was driving comes over a cliff and nearly crushes Grace - unexpected). I would be disappointed at paying full price for this film.

Yes, he is in pain but isn't strong enough to kill himself.

There are a few differences in the storyline between the 1986 and 2007 version of The Hitcher. In the 1986 version Jim Halsey is trying to make some extra money by transporting a car to another state when he comes across serial killer John Ryder. He gets help from a truck stop waitress named Nash.

Starring:

* C. Thomas Howell as Jim Halsey
* Rutger Hauer as John Ryder (the hitcher)
