Back Links and PR

It's common knowledge that obtaining back-links is the most important task when it comes to gaining a good Page Rank for your site.
But it's the quality of the back-links that count the most.
Lowest quality are those that are mere reciprocal or exchange links with sites of the same PR or lower than yours. These count as very low on Google's radar and are rarely even worth the bother of obtaining.
Better are exchange links are those from higher PR sites than your own.
Better still are one-way links, where a site of similar (or even lower) PR links to yours but you don't link back.
Best of all are one-way links from sites of a higher PR than yours.
With all back-links, I can't stress highly enough the importance of having your site's main keywords as the anchor text. This give keyword authority to your site and counts for a whole lot when it comes to jostling for position in the SERPs.
The problem is that high PR sites generally will not be interested in giving you a one-way link unless there is something in it for them.
Often they will charge you a hefty sum for "buying" their link and where this used to be the most lucrative way of making money for high PR sites, they are now finding that Google is penalizing them for selling links by docking their own page rank, effectively reducing the value of the links they can sell until they lose all page rank making thier links virtually worthless. This is intended to force the practice to become less rife as more and more high PR sites get hit.
The best way of obtaining free one-way links from high PR sites is to write articles and submit them to high PR article directories and ezines.

Another way is to submit your sites to web directories. Here is a good one that I made myself a little earlier Web Directory. This one uses a link bid script which means you bid a small amount of money to get your site featured on page one.
Another way is to submit comments to high PR blogs that have a "do Follow" policy, but don't spam them or you're comment will just be deleted. Make the comment relevant to the post and comment on one of the latest posts only - spammers tend to pick older posts to spam on.

Yet still another way is to create a squidoo lens that matches your website's topic or niche and write lots of unique, on topic content for the lens. Make sure you do this and not just create a thread-bare lens or it will not be worth much. This has a two-fold effect. One, you get a valuable one-way keyword anchored link to your site and two, you get a second fast indexing page that will complement your site, drive traffic to it and increase your own presence in the SERPs.

Anti-Spyware, Cookies and Lost Clickbank Commissions

For anyone who is an affiliate marketer or sells electronic merchandise with an affiliate link this information could mean the difference between sink or swim.
The recent explosion in anti-spyware software finding its way onto home computers is quite alarming. You wouldn't think this could cause any problems except for the spammers and information thieves who lurk in the darkest cyber-recesses of the world wide information superhighway.
But it is actually causing more problems than it could ever solve. To affiliate marketers, anyway.
The problem is that companies that sell online products need a helping hand in the form of exposure. They already spend plenty on advertising, but there is another way they can get their message out to the consumers that may want to buy their wares.
Affiliate marketers.
These stalwart pillars of the cyber-community do a sterling job at promoting the products and services of a whole brace of companies and individual vendors, bringing in more sales for the vendors than their own efforts alone could ever produce and making a small commission from those sales as payment for their hard work.
The middlemen who put the vendors in touch with the affiliate marketers are companies like Clickbank, PayDotCom et al.
In order to track which buyer has purchased which product via which affiliate marketer, so that the proper commissions can be paid to the right people, small pieces of software are used, called cookies.
These benign little programs simply sit on your hard drive and track you from the initial promotional ad you clicked on to the sales page of the vendor of the product you wish to purchase.
All was fine until the advent of anti-spyware. These (in my opinion unnecessary) programs block cookies from doing their job of tracking sales back to affiliate marketers, so the marketers lose any commission on the sales of products they worked so hard to promote. They are losing out in truckloads.
This cannot continue, else the whole business will fall down flat on its face.
o Affiliate marketers will stop promoting products because they're not being paid
o Vendors will go out of business because fewer products are being sold
o Consumers will be deprived of the products they desire because the vendors have given up.
Maybe that'll also affect the sales of the anti-spyware that is causing all this havoc.
Oh please, let it be...

As they are not stealing your information...
You DO NOT need to block these cookies!

Buying your own domain is something that every Internet Marketer should do, because it promotes a professional appearance to the outside world about you and your business. There are lots of places to buy domains from and various options available to you.
One is to buy a brand new domain that you create yourself. That is getting tougher as time goes by as all the best, keyword rich domain names have already been snapped up, especially in the .com flavour, which is really where you should be.
An alternative is to buy expired domains through one of the various online domain auctions amd this can be highly rewarding as there are some good keyword rich .com domains to be had. The beauty of buying an expired domain is age.
With age, a domain has authority, the older the better. An older domain will tend to do better in the search engine results than a new one, will be virtually exempt from the dreaded sandbox and may also come with some backlinks already in place, meaning they won't take quite so much work or time to get them to rank well for their main keywords.
Where is a good place to get expired or new domains?
Personally, I have used GoDaddy for all my own domain purchases, which now exceeds 60 in total, bieng a mixture of new and expired domains. I can say that they have always been perfect for that purpose and their prices are amongst the lowest I've found for all domain purchases.
You can pick up expired domains from as little as $5 plus a year's registration, which is to my mind an absolute bargain, especially as some of the domains I've bought have come with good page rank and backlinks. Adsense. Need an Alternative?
Due to inexperience and lack of proper knowledge and training back then, I was kicked out of the adsense program just after xmas 2006. They said I had invalid clicks on my account and their ruling was swift, harsh and final.
Ok, there are alternatives, right? Well, yes there are, but none of them really come close except maybe Yahoo ads, but if you don't live in the US then it's no good to you. And I live in Europe!
So I started hunting around, as you do, and found something that promised to be the answer to my prayers.

Self Branding is not a new concept - in fact its been around a very long time. As far as the Internet goes. not so long maybe, but raising awareness of who you are and what you do etc is highly important to your credibility as an Internet Marketer.
When a newbie first comes into the world of Internet Marketing, their first thoughts are to keep their name well and truly hidden in case they run into scammers and end up with their personal details splashed all of the web for all to see.
That's normal when you're getting into a business that has got its fair share of bad press. But after some time learning the ropes and then setting up their own IM business, they start to realize that the big-time marketers out there are all known by their real names.
People like Mike Filsaime, John Chow, Russ Brunson, Ewen Chia... the list goes on... they all trade under their own names. My being able to recall these names from memory is no accident. That's what they want - their names to be known and remembered as top marketers in their fields.
So if you want to someday join these people, you are going to have to raise awareness of YOU.
The ways to do that are manyfold, but you can start by getting your own domain with your name on! Make it a good website or better still (in these enlightened, content hungry times) a killer blog!
You could even use a good keyword to promote your site along with your own name.
If you've reached the stage where you are confident enough to start putting your name about, you are probably already a member of several forums in your niche. Get into them and make sure you put your name either in your signature, or make a point of adding it to the bottom of every post!
While you're at it, get rid of those affiliate links out of your forum signature and put your own website/blog URLs in there instead. Don't forget your main site, like The Honest Way as it needs all the links it can get!
Sell your affiliate products from your site - that's where you want to drive that traffic first - not straight to someone else's site!
Think about that logic!
Links in a forum sig are back-links to the site which the search engines take as popularity rating when it comes time to hand out the Page Ranks. If you're forum sigs are full of affiliate links, the PR goes to those sites. However, if your sigs are full of YOUR site links, YOUR SITE GETS THE PR!
Better for you and better for your self-branding.

New Website!
I've been busy putting together a new website to partner my The Honest Way site in the pursuit of making money online. To that end, it will be highly SEO'd and be full of lots of affiliate products to sell plus all the usual suspects like web hosting, auto responders and the like.
Well, as it's currently chasing the keyword: How to Make Money, I put it as the anchored text for the link. Its name?

To add to the above, I have added yet another website to my growing neighbourhood of sites. This newest addition is the result of buying an expired five year old domain that had a great name and all that authority by nature of its antiquity. The new site is being built as a blog for maximum impact and the best chance to creep upwards in the organic search results - which is where the traffic is to be had!
My new site, Make Money Hints, is naturally a blog all about how to make money online. Give it a try, as it is publishing some hitherto little known techniques for how to make money online, so you might just learn something!

The adding of new websites to my growing menagerie continues unabated, with several new niche sites now up and running with WordPress blogs installed. As the majority of them do not fall into this niche, giving them links from this lens is unnecessary as they will not count for much in the way of link juice. The only way to do that is by linking to other sites in the same niche, otherwise your link is wasted and not only that, it dilutes the link juice of the good ones you're giving out.
But sites in the same niche as this lens, which is mainly based on the make money online niche and loosely on money and finance, then links to those sites will count. New Website Morphs into New Blogsite!

What is he on about now? What the blue blazes is a Blogsite?
Well, it's a blog that's a homepage for a website! I blogged about it yesterday while I was tearing down my homepage and replacing it with a wordpress blog.
Why?
I've noticed lots of blogs that are making money for their owners are appearing without the usual www.domain.com/blog url, but now look like www.domain.com - ie the homepage is the blog.
When you think about it, this makes perfect sense. When you want to make money from your blog, the best way is through advertising - and advertisers want to pay good money for a high traffic, high PR blog. Sure, there are plenty of blogger.com hosted blogs with high traffic and decent PR's but wait a minute...
Say you are paying for professional webhosting and want to monetize that website. The best way is through a blog because by their very nature, their content is constantly being updated, therefore visitors are more likely to keep coming back to read it, and any ads on the page are going to get seen by more people than they would do on a static homepage that rarely if ever changes.
Also, when you are procuring backlinks for your site, you naturally link back to your homepage, which gets the best PR, while sub-pages including blogs are left with lower of no PR's.
So there's an even better reason to have your blog as your homepage - the blog gets all the backlinks and the high PR, making it even more lucrative in terms of attracting advertisers who will pay more for a high PR, high traffic blog.
Back to where I started!
So I revamped my new website so that the blog is now the homepage. But I did a bit more too. I changed the subdomain name that I was using from makemoneyonline to makemoney.
Why?

I'm sure most of you have heard of QVC, the cable TV show that advertises just about anything from gadgets to appliances to jewelry etc and sells them for an absolute bargain price every day! This show attracts an amazing amount of viewers in every country it's screened.
Well, a similar phenomenon is about to hit the online world.
When I heard about this I was impressed enough to jump on it straight away. Its called DealDotCom and they have what looks like a killer affiliate program to just die for! I signed up myself as an affiliate and would love to extend the offer to you too. You can click on one of the links and be nice to me by signing up with my link - then start promoting it yourself and get people to sign up with yours!

Education is everything and it applies to whatever you do in life. When you know what you're doing, you stand a better chance of being successful at it!
The Internet is a great place to learn what we need to know to make money online, but getting a good start at school and college is also needed as a solid foundation for what you intend to do in later life.
I started a site that features Pierce College with not much idea what I was going to put in it to start with. So I had to start researching the college to find content for the site. It reminded me that getting a good education is the key to success in any field and that also applies to making an honest living from the Internet.
The Internet is a great place to learn what we need to know to make money online, but getting a good start at school and college is also needed as a solid foundation for what you intend to do in later life.

Asia'h Epperson and The Honest Way
What has Asia'h Epperson got to do with The Honest Way?
Not a lot, you'd think but you'd be wrong! I just added a page on the main site especially for Asia'h Epperson in order to prove a point that you can rank for other niche keywords in a totally unrelated blog as long as you gather some backlinks and the niche is not competitive.
In this case, I've also built a separate blog that is tightly focused on Asia'h Epperson to improve the chances of one or other of them getting a good ranking.
The niche containing Asia'h Epperson is fairly small and dwindling now that she has been ejected from American Idol (Yep, if you were wondering - that's who she is) so there isn't too much competition, so thanks to a gauntlet laid down by a certain person in Canada, I took up the challenge to see if I can get my page above his in the SERPs. Lets see how I get on!
Quick update: Looks like the competition simply has too many more links than I can naturally give to compete, and as time and energy are in short supply, I'll be focusing my efforts onto money making sites that take priority!
