Disney's The Little Mermaid is about a 16 year old mermaid who longs to live in the human world, and goes through many troubbles to do so. The Little Mermaid was Disney's 28th Animated feature film, and was released on November 17, 1989 with its first pincil test on September 23, 1988. The Little Mermaid also marked the start of the era called the Disney Renaissance.

The Little Mermaid and CAPS
(computer animation production system)
Disney's The Little Mermaid was the first Disney animated feature film to use CAPS (computer animation production system.) CAPS is a digital animation production system that digitally colors the animator's drawing, instead of traceing ink and paint onto cells. There are two sceens that use CAPS in The Little Mermaid, one is when Ariel runs down a flight of stairs (CAPS is used for the moving background) then it is also used for the weding sceen at the end of the movie. The Little Mermaid was considered to be the first film using all digital processes.

Disney recently just came out with the newest The Little Mermaid movie called The Little Mermaid Ariel's Beginning. Jodi Benson returns to play the voice of Ariel, and Samuel E Wright returns to play the voice of Sebastian the crab. This movie based off of events that happened before the first movie The Little Mermaid. It was first released on August 26, 2008. This movie would be a great addition to any The Little Mermaid fan!
