Cult Classic VS Direct-to-DVD Sequel!

The Lost Boys vs The Tribe

Twenty years after the original Warner Bros decides to release a sequel to The Lost Boys. Entitled Lost Boys: The Tribe, it continues the story from the first movie. But why make a sequel now? Why after all these years?

The Lost Boys

Synopsis of the Film

The Lost Boys tells the story of brothers Michael and Sam Emerson who move to Santa Carla with their mother. Moving in with their eccentric grandfather, Michael and Sam find it hard to adjust to life in the tiny sea-side town. At the Boardwalk, Michael falls for Star, a mysterious girl who lives with The Lost Boys.

Befriended by David and the rest of the gang, Michael's life takes a darker turn. Sam becomes friends with Edgar and Alan Frog, who work in their parents' comic book story by day while fighting crime by night. When strange things start to happen, Michael finds out he hasn't just fallen in with some local punks -- the Lost Boys are really vampires!

A Cult Classic

Released in July 1987, The Lost Boys brought a whole new vision to the vampire mythos. With a young cast of hip newcomers including Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patric, Corey Haim, and Corey Feldman it also changed the conventions of vampires in the movies.

The use of makeup and contact lenses for the vampires' transformations went on to influence Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, as well as countless others.

One of the best selling VHS tapes in Warner Bros history, it became a cult-classic through the 1990s. Along with its soundtrack that featured the likes of INXS, Echo and the Bunnymen, and Gerard McMann, The Lost Boys has certainly earned its place in cinema history.

Lost Boys: The Tribe

Synopsis of the Film

Chris and Nicole Emerson have just lost their parents and are forced to move in with their eccentric aunt Jillian, who lives in Luna Bay.

When Nicole falls for local surfer Shane, Chris soon realizes his sister has fallen in with a pack of vampires who rule this tiny coastal town. With some help from Edgar Frog, Chris sets out to destroy the vampires and save his sister before she becomes a vampire herself.

The Next Generation

For years speculation floated around that there would be a sequel released to The Lost Boys. A script entitled The Lost Girls made the rounds on the internet in the 90s but nothing official ever happened.

Rumblings got louder in 2006 and 2007, with the 20th anniversary of the film. Corey Feldman and Corer Haim tackled the subject on their A&E series The Two Coreys, and finally there was an official announcement.

Lost Boys: The Tribe filmed in Vancouver, BC and is set to be released under Warner Bros' direct-to-DVD division Warner Premiere. A cast of hip young faces joined by several new comers, the most interesting of which is Angus Sutherland, younger half brother of Kiefer Sutherland.

The film also marks the return of both Corey Feldman, Jamieson Newlander and Corey Haim (the Frog Brothers and Sam Emerson, respectfully) and is set to bring the continuation of the story in July 2008.

YOUR TURN!

Did they need to make this sequel?

Yes, they did! I'm excited!

Alexa says:

Go LOST BOYS 3! THANK YOU COREY!

CeleryStalker says:

I didn't have high hopes watching it, but the movie was actually pretty decent :)

3fan4ever says:

It wasn't nearly as good as the first one but it did leave it wide open for a third since it left entirely too many unanswered questions. Not getting to see Corey Haim have a more active role in it was a heart breaker. I am hoping though if they do make a third one, it doesn't take another twenty years to do it! Tying everything in and answering the questions created by 2 would be very cool. The town was similar to the first one, but you could tell the difference. It seemed like it was much smaller than the first. Sam being a vampire and it alluding to one of the frog brothers getting turned into one was something I was NOT expecting. I'm curious to see if there is any family connection with the two sets of Emersons in the movies since they never really specified who the parents were and the crazy aunt was their mother's sister.

BaDass says:

I loved the sequel.. but they left alot of things out like...how sam & edgar frogs brother became a vampire.. they made it seem that they where in the same town as the first one.. But overall the movie was really good and probably become a cult classic for a new generation!!

wildink1 says:

absolutely! i was excited to see the sequel!! long over due. i enjoyed the fact that another sutherland played the lead vampire... nice eye candy!!!

Crystal says:

No They didn't need to make a new one but it is still an awesome movie to watch. The first one was better i will say that. It is still a movie to watch if you liked the first one.

Sandy-aka: Chica says:

Angus Sutherland is so HOTTTTT!!! Damn!!

Crystal_Booth says:

I loved The Lost Boys! It was one of my first vampire movies and I wished for sequel. When I heard talk of it on the The Two Coreys, I got excited all over again. I can't wait to see it.

No way! Why ruin a classic?

LostBoyLover says:

Truthfully, I was happy they had a 2nd movie, opening up a chance for a third. However, the 2nd movie was FAR from the great classic of the 1st Lost Boys. If it is possible of a 3rd movie, I hope it will be higher to expectations. Though I must admit, Corey Feldman did fantasic in both movies.

TD says:

I loved the lost boys and 20 years later I was happy to hear of the 2nd one. It didnt however meet my expectations. The first one rocked. The 2nd one was not what I expected. Corey Feldman still looked great!

Nik Tripp says:

I'm glad that they made the sequel, but it was degrading to the Original film!
It is one of my favorite vampire movie and they did not live up to my ecpectations with the sequal...

fefe says:

I loved the original Lost Boys but don't have high expectations for the sequel, especially since it is direct to video.
