DESERVE THE FUTURE

Them Crooked Vultures is comprised of Josh Homme, Dave Grohl, and John Paul Jones. You might know them better as members of Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters, and Led Zeppelin respectively. Having debuted August 9th, 2009, what does this supergroup have up its sleeve for fans? Get their self-titled debut, now in stores and available on iTunes!

Them Crooked Vultures

About the band

In 2005, Dave Grohl spoke to Mojo magazine: "The next project that I'm trying to initiate involves me on drums, [Queens of the Stone Age's] Josh Homme on guitar, and [Led Zeppelin's] John Paul Jones playing bass. That's the next album. That wouldn't suck."

In 2009, it has become a reality.

Brody Dalle of Spinnerette, who happens to be Homme's wife, hinted at the group in an interview with Antiquiet in July 2009. Jesse Hughes of Eagles of Death Metal let the band's name slip during an interview with Winnipeg's Power 97. And now there is confirmation: Them Crooked Vultures are making their live debut with a post-Lollapalooza performance at Chicago's Metro on August 9th at Midnight. Tickets were available through a pre-sale through the band's website but an error caused an uproar on social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook when fans could not purchase tickets.

A pair of videos surfaced on YouTube but were later pulled. Information from these fake videos included an album title of Never Deserved the Future and a "release" date of October 23, 2009. This all turned out to be misinformation.

In interviews, Homme revealed the band was hatched during Grohl's 40 birthday party at Medieval Times (a theme restaurant) where he was seated next to John Paul Jones. Things moved to the studio, where the three jammed and realized this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. From there the band became a reality.

The band played its first show at the Metro in Chicago, setting off a unparalleled buzz among fans. This was followed with a handful of US club dates on a small tour, prior to the release of their first self-titled album. A UK/Europe and Australia/New Zealand tour will follow in the Winter of 2009/2010.

Them Crooked Vultures

Dave Grohl

Drummer

When his career as a drummer began in the 1980s for several Washington, D.C., area bands, Dave Grohl eventually settled as the drummer for the seminal grunge band Nirvana in 1990. After the demise of Nirvana and the death of front man Kurt Cobain, Grohl formed his own band, the Foo Fighters. Moving from drums to frontman introduced the music world to another side of Grohl.

His talents have led him to working with the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Killing Joke, Tenacious D, Nine Inch Nails and The Prodigy. Dave also has a side project known as Probot.

John Paul Jones

Bassist/Keyboards

John Baldwin, better known as John Paul Jones, began his musical career at the age of six with the piano. At 14 he took up bass guitar and joined his first band, The Deltas, at the age of 15. From 1964 to 1968 he worked with Decca Records as a studio sessions musician. Along the way he was introduced to guitarist Jimmy Page, who was also a sessions musician.

After the break up of The Yardbirds, Jones inquired about joining Page in a new musical collaboration. The addition of vocalist Robert Plant and drummer John Bonham lead to the creation of Led Zeppelin.

Following the death of John Bonham in 1980, Led Zeppelin dissolved and Jones moved onto a successful solo career as well as collaborations with the likes of R.E.M., Heart, Ben E. King, Peter Gabriel, Foo Fighters, Cinderella, The Mission, La Fura dels Baus, Brian Eno, the Butthole Surfers and Uncle Earl.

Josh Homme

Vocals/Guitarist

Having been a part of legendary heavy metal/desert rock band Kyuss, Josh Homme is a multi-instrumentalist who calls Palm Desert, CA, his home. After the break up of Kyuss, he formed Queens of the Stone Age. He also plays drums with Eagles of Death Metal and produces the popular Desert Sessions.

Homme has also worked with the likes of Mondo Generator, Foo Fighters, PJ Harvey, Fatso Jetson, Mark Lanegan Band, Trent Reznor, Masters of Reality, Millionaire, Wellwater Conspiracy, U.N.K.L.E., Melissa Auf der Maur, Paz Lenchantin, A Perfect Circle, Death from Above 1979, Earthlings?, Mastodon, Peaches, The Strokes and Local H.
