I have been building web sites for almost three years with SBI. Prior to that, I had never built a site before. They help you find a concept for your site that you know about and love. Then they help you find keywords to build pages around. They use the keywords that people use to find web information. If you follow The Action Guide and do everything that you are supposed to do, your web site will get found by visitors.
Traffic is essential for you to make money. Traffic or visitors look for information on the internet. You need to give helpful information to them and they will come back again and again and they will tell all of their friends.
Once you get between 30 and 50 pages built and you have about 50 visitors a day, you are ready to start making money on your site. For starters, you can add Google Adsense. Each time a visitor clicks on your Google Ad, you make money. Remember that you are not allowed to click on your own Google Ads. If you do, Google will shut your account down. Write about something you have done in the business world like designing, advertising, nursing, massage therapy, drafting...you get the point. Some work at home mothers write about weddings, being a mother, having a baby, being pregnant, getting pregnant, infertility...Men write about cars, trucks, machinery, photography, driveways,...
If you love to travel, you might consider a travel site concept such as San Antonio or Colorado Springs. These two cities are what my two travel sites are about.
