"Wendy" was a pretty popular name in the 1950's when I was born. Also, "Wendy" is a popular girls name associated with the cartoons or movies about "Casper & Wendy" and "Peter Pan & Wendy".
The origin of the name "Wendy" is English or from the United Kingdom. The meaning of the name "Wendy" is Friend. "Wendy" is also a pretty popular name back in Nova Scotia, Canada where some of my Dad's family immigrated from Scotland.

My favorite duos were "Casper & Wendy" and "Peter Pan & Wendy", the lovable cartoons characters in books, movies and on television.
I remember "Casper" the best and I enjoyed watching "Casper" cartoons. He was such a lovable "Friendly Ghost" and, of course, his cute sidekick "Wendy" was such a "Good Little Witch". "Peter Pan" was the flying boy that could really fly high, and his sidekick was "Wendy". Whoa! She could fly way up high, too! She was also known as "Wendy Darling" of the Darling Family in Peter Pan books.
When your named is associated with a cartoon character it's natural to assume kids will tease you. I vaguely remember the "Where's Casper" or "Where's Peter Pan" jokes or really being teased. I only remember it wasn't too fun. With this generation, I get the little smart remarks about "Wendy's" Hamburgers. If some smarty pants kid happens to say, "Did You Eat Enough Burgers, Today?". My only thoughts are "No, No, Not the Burgers." Then I laugh and walk away!

Every Name Has a Song, even "Wendy"
"Wendy" by the Beach Boys - released 1964
A song "Wendy" was written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love of the Beach Boys and released on the album called "All Summer Long" in 1964. It was later released on the album "Good Vibrations: Thirty Years of the Beach Boys" in 1993. In June 2008, the US Collections Box (Audio CD) was released with the song "Wendy".
Most of the classic Beach Boy music and songs are a favorite of mine; especially from the "Good Vibrations" album. However, I can't say I'm very fond of the lyrics to the song, "Wendy". Surely, someone can rewrite the lyrics. If it's not the Burgers, it's the Cartoon Characters, & now it's this "Wendy" song! Why did they have to re-release it?

- I enjoyed visiting and learning about the name Wendy. It is a lovely name. I have never liked my name which is named after both my grandmothers, first name is one grandmother and the second name is my other grandmother.
