With the likes of AL Cy Young winner Johan Santana, all around 3rd Baseman David Wright, the NL fastest man José Reyes, and one of baseball's most complete players Carlos Beltran.
There are still some questionable players. Can Pedro Martinez find the old groove? Will Fernando Tatis be able to continue his play into the Playoff? Does Carlos Delgado still have one more excellent season in him?
Will they have to chant Tug McGraw's "You Gotta Believe", to the end of the season. Hopefully, they won't crash in September like they did last year. On September 12th they had a 7 game lead, and then they lost 12 of 17 to finish second. With Santana anchoring the starting pitching, a collapse like this can be averted.

Jose Reyes - Man is he Fast!!!!!!!!!!!
A classic lead off hitter. Good hitter, good base runner, and can even knock in a runner or two. Reyes has a .306 BA, 55 RBIs, 97 Runs, and 45 SBs. Another good year for the shortstop. A spark plug for a good hitting team.

Carlos Beltran - A Good All Around Center Fielder
Carlos Beltran is having another decent season - for Carlos Beltran. Carlos Beltran is one of the most complete Players in Baseball. Beltran currently has a .273 BA, 20 HRs, 91 RBIs, 93 Runs and 19 SB. Carlos Beltran came to the Mets as a free agent in 2004/2005 off season.

Johan Santana - The Starter the Mets Needed
While a Cy Young may not be in the cards this year, he his still having a good year. With a quality starter like Santana, he should be able to stop any deep slide that took place in September 2007, shouldn't happen again. Santana currently is 12-7, 159 Ks, 2.70 ERA.

Mike Pelfrey - Has He Come into His Own?
Mike Pelfrey was a Mets Rookie. He currently has a 13-8 record, 97 Ks, 3.66 ERA. He looks like a quality Mets pitcher.
Billy Wagner - Will He Return This Year?
The only weakness that the Mets have is the relief staff. Billy Wagner has been out since August 2nd, and it looks like he won't return for 3 more weeks. The Mets have 24 blown saves, and 11 out of 24 since the All-Star break. Billy Wagner had 27 saves before he was placed on the Disabled list, with a 2.30 ERA.
