Home remedies are lots of fun to try and have been used for centuries with much success.I'll be sharing some of the health remedies I have found and used over the last 25 years or so (has it really been that long??).  Some of the remedies will be new ones that I have just learned about but am currently trying.

I have shared these with others over many years and no one has not survived so I feel like they are worth sharing with you!

That said, use your own due diligence before trying a remedy and make sure that it will be safe for YOU.  One thing that must be kept in mind with these remedies is that the people using them are not on any medications or other un-natural substances so the results would not adversely affect.

Help for your Heartburn 

Simple Explanation and Health Remedy for Heartburn

If you think that you get heartburn from too much acid or eating acid foods then you may be wrong.

Heartburn actually occurs when there is not enough of THE RIGHT KIND of acid in your stomach for proper digestion.

Your tummy needs hydrochloric acid to break down the food you eat. When there is a shortage, your food begins to putrefy which produces acids which cause heartburn and indigestion.

WHERE'S THE TUMS?
You may reach for over-the-counter antacids at this point but they only cover up and then aggravate the situation because they end up leaving the stomach more alkaline than ever.

APPLE CIDER TO THE RESCUE
Apple cider vinegar is very rich in MALIC acid which increases the acidity of your digestive fluids. This causes them to flow faster thereby improving digestion.

Here is a quick and easy health remedy for heartburn relief:

1 heaping teaspoon honey (preferably raw)
2 teaspoons raw apple cider vinegar
8 ounces warm water
Mix together and drink.

What Kind of Apple Cider To Use

Please do not use store grade apple cider flavored vinegar. You will not get the results you want. You will have to visit a health food store for this one, or make it yourself.

A Bedtime Trick to Help Heartburn 

Well, heartburn must be a real problem this time of year cuz I just read in a magazine a little trick for helping nighttime heartburn.

Here it is:

Roll onto your left side.

Yeah, that's it. Roll onto your left side.

Apparently it works as this raises your esophagus higher than your stomach. That way any remaining food won't press on the opening which is the common cause of night time acid reflux.

Give it a try next time you can't sleep due to having eaten too much. (Shame on you!) : )

An old doctor in a small town finally took a vacation. He assigned his youngest son, not long out of medical school, to look after his practice.

When the father returned,he asked his son if anything unusual had happened in his absence.

"I cured that indigestion Mrs. Collins had been suffering from for thirty years," the son proudly announced.

"You did what?" his father stormed. "How could you? It was that indigestion that put you through prep school, college and medical school!"

Ginger As A Health Remedy 

How To Make Ginger Tea

Ginger is a great remedy. Most of us have it conveniently in our cupboards. Of course, organic dried ginger or fresh ginger is the best.

Ginger is great for the stomach, intestines, and circulation. It is used to treat headaches, colds, diarrhea, stomachache, nausea, vomiting, rheumatism, chest congestion, and nervous diseases. You can also use for stomach cramping, motion sickness and it helps kill parasites in the colon. Ginger helps control inflammatory responses, therefore helping to reduce the pain and swelling associated with these symptoms.

GINGER TEA
To make ginger tea you will need fresh ginger root (you can get this even at walmart in your veggie department), honey or maple syrup, and fresh lemon juice.

Grate one ounce of fresh ginger and simmer for ten minutes in a pint of water. Take with honey and lemon especially for colds and flus.

You should also add ginger root to meat dishes to help the intestines detox the meat as it is hard on them.

Ginger helps control inflammatory responses, therefore helping to reduce the pain and swelling associated with these symptoms.

Cayenne - An Important Health Remedy 

Keep This One Handy

Cayenne is a very simple health remedy that really works. It has been used here in the US since the Wild West days when they sprinkled it into gunshot wounds!

Cayenne can be used to stop both external and internal bleeding. It supposedly works very quickly. I've never tried it for internal bleeding but have for external cuts in a septic mix I make combining it with yarrow and it works great. It has been said for those prone to heart attack to keep cayenne handy. A handy emergency replacement for that nitro stuff.

Dr. John Christopher recommends using it as a drink for bleeding.

Mix 1 teaspoon Cayenne Red Pepper Powder and dissolve in 1 cup hot water.

I add Cayenne to every meal I can as it is just great for regulating blood pressure too and supposedly helps keep the metabolism going for weight loss also.

Cayenne will normalize both high and low blood pressure.

Cayenne will also help eliminate excess mucous.

It can be rubbed onto toothaches and other swellings and inflammations. So if you have arthritis you could give it a try.

Also remember to grab some plantain from your front yard and combine it with cayenne to make a poultice when you need to draw out a foreign object that has found its way into your skin.

How Cayenne Works As A Health Remedy

Cayenne is one of those herbs that enters the blood stream immediately. It will adjust the blood pressure over your entire body. If you are bleeding, this in turn reduces the high pressure, which is causing the bleeding and clotting starts immediately.

Health Remedy For Your Laundry 

Healthy Laundry Soap

Bet you didn't know your laundry could use a health remedy. Well, maybe not but if you have sensitive skin or want to give up using chemical solvents such as aluminum, PCB, artificial fragrances and the residues that accompany them then you might want to try this remedy.

What you need:
one box of Borax
one box of washing soda
optional grated homemade lye soap about 2 bars

Mix this all together and store covered.

To use take 1/2 cup of mixture per load of wash.

You should be able to find the soda and borax in the laundry section of your supermarket.

You will find that your laundry smells very clean and fresh. Borax helps dissove grease and stops the growth of bacteria and fungus. It also softens the war. You can use it by itself if your clothes are not real dirty. The Washing Soda just adds extra cleaning power. If you have children you will need this for sure.

Health Remedy For A Sweet Tooth 

I haven't tried this remedy yet but I just heard about it and I'm going to.

An acidic pH in your body is what is said to cause a craving for sweets. So the health remedy is to try filling up on cherry tomatoes before you go somewhere where you will be tempted by a lot of sweets. Since cherry tomatoes are alkaline, this should help curb the sweet craving.

I'm not sure how this works when you want a sweet just cuz it looks so good but I'm going to give this one a try as I love tomatoes about as much as sweets!

Tomatoes - An Overall Good Health Remedy 

Glowing skin can be yours

While we are on the subject of tomatoes I thought it would be helpful to share that the red pigment you find in tomatoes is a wonderful antioxidant that shields skin from UV damage.

That red pigment is called lycopene, and it acts as a natural sunscreen, blocking up to 50 percent of the sun's harmful rays.

This antioxidant also inhibits the accelerated cell division that leads to skin cancer.

Since cooking tomatoes brings out even more lycopene best results may be obtained using processed tomatoes like sauces, diced tomatoes, tomato juice, bloody marys and the like.

Health Remedy for the Lungs 

A Lung Tonic

I had a handyman that worked on our house for a while. He smoked and was also doing a lot of drywalling which wasn't helping the condition of his lungs. I made up this remedy for him and boy did it help and quick! I believe this would help those with asthma also.

1 large red onion
2 large cloves of garlic
2 tablespoons raw honey or add to taste
Juice of 1 lemon (this part is optional but very good for antibacterial)

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Peel your onion and cut into slivers. Place in a small covered baking dish. Put in oven and bake about 20 minutes until softened.

Peel garlic cloves.

Place softened onion and raw garlic cloves into blender and liquefy. Add a little water if necessary to get the mixture moving.

Strain you onion-garlic mixture through a piece of clean nylons, several layers of cheesecloth or a tshirt.

Add lemon juice and sweeten with honey to taste. Store in a bottle in the refrigerator.

Take 1 tablespoon every 2 hours.

You will soon find your lungs clearing.

This makes approximately one cup.

The Benefits of Honey and Cinnamon as a Health Remedy 

Part One - Combatting the Common Cold

When you are suffering from a cold try taking one tablespoon honey along with 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon daily until symptoms subside.

This will clear up your cold, most chronic coughs, and will clear the sinuses.

Health Remedy for Appendicitis Prevention 

Fiber is Your Friend

Appendicitis usually occurs when a firm piece of stool blocks the small opening of the appendix. This allows bacteria to flourish inside the appendix.

To help prevent this, it is a good idea to up your intake of fiber.

Fiber absorbs water causing the stool to become larger, softer,and less likely to break apart and causes stool to move more quickly through your digestive tract thus reducing the chances of appendicitis.

There are a lot of fruits and vegetables, legumes, etc that help add fiber to your diet. You can also drink a drink of psyllium seed husk with molasses.

A Salty Health Remedy 

Sea Vegetables

Sea vegetables should be eaten most every day for optimum health and for getting all of the essential vitamins and minerals.

Asian cultures have always known this.

It is suspected that sea vegetables may have cancer0-fighting compounds that simply aren't found on land vegetables.

It doesn't take a lot of this vegetable to reap the benefits. As little as 12/4 ounce of dried sea vegetables can make a significant difference.

To experiment using these amazing healthy vegetables, start adding small, bite-size pieces to salads, soups, stews, grain dishes, stir-fries and of course sandwiches.

Some different kinds and how to use them

Alaria:
Also known as wakame, this it the seaweed used in miso soup. Use it in salads or pasta dishes by softening it in water for 2 to 3 minutes and cut it into slivers. It is quite chewy, but cutting away the stiff midrib will help make it tender.

Dulse:
You can eat dulse straight from the package. If you don't like the saltiness, rinse it first. Snip and add to soups, stews, and pasta dishes.

Hijiki:
To tame the saltiness, soak it for 10 to 15 minutes, then drain. It is also recommended to simmer for about 30 minutes or until tender, then add it to salads, vegetables, or bean dishes. Drizzle it with sesame oil and eat as a side dish too.

Kelp:
Add to soups and stews as a replacement for salt. to add seasoning to bean and grain dishes, add the strips.
One ounce of kelp provides 51 micrograms (13 percent of daily value of folate, a nutrient that helps break down protein in the body and aids in the regeneration of red blood cells. Kelp contains magnesium - almost 9% of recommended daily value

Nori:
Use scissors to cut into strips or tear up and sprinkle into food. Add to soups salads and pasta.
One ounce of raw nori contains 11 milligrams of infection-fighting vitamin C. It also delivers nearly 1500 units Vitamin A.
