Who Are the WonderPets?
Wonder Pets! is Nick Jr. show, also shown on Noggin, for preschoolers.Episodes follow the adventures of three classroom pets, Linny, the guinea pig, Ming-Ming, the duckling, and Tuck, the turtle, who travel around the world, aseell as into books and pictures, rescueing animals who need their help.The Wonder Pets actually havesuper powers, but by working together they can conquer any obstacle: 'What's gonna work? Teamwork!'

Should the Wonder Pets creators rethink Ming Ming's speech impediment?

I do. Specifically because my 3.5 yo watched to show for awhile without issues then after a few months, began speaking with Ming-Ming's impediment. Prior to the show never, she had any trouble enunciating words correctly and in fact spoke more clearly than most young kids her age - this is something I've been very consistent with. In my opinion, this causes an educational deficit and as such, should not be encouraged.
Aside from the speech impediment, we love the morals of the stories but, as a responsible and concerned parent, I had to ban the show because of the negative verbal influence.

I don't think it's necessary as Ming-Ming probably appeals to those children who have the same impediment. It's not reinforcing that it's okay but highlighting that they exist and one doesn't have to be ashamed of speaking that way. Besides she is an animated duck on her it's cute. If it becomes a true issue then they can find a way to change it but until that time comes leave the cute duckling alone.
