The Premier League - also known as The Premiership or Barclays Premier League - is the top tier in the English football league.
Formed in 1992, it is the most watched sports league in the world, and the most lucrative football league. A promotion to the Premier League is reportedly worth £60m (approximately US$120m) in extra income through sponsorship and TV rights deals.
In European Football, the Premier League is ranked in second spot after the Spanish La Liga, measured on the Premier League Clubs' performance in the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Cup over the last 5 years, including the 2006-2007 season. Hence 3 out of 4 semi-finalists in the 2006-2007 UEFA Champions League (Liverpool FC, Manchester United and Chelsea FC) were Premier League Clubs.
The Premier League has been contested since 1992 in it's current form, and has been won by a total of 4 teams: Manchester United, Arsenal FC, Chelsea FC and Blackburn Rovers. The current (2006-2007) champions are Manchester United, with Chelsea FC runners up.
Currently, the Premier League is contested by 20 clubs that will play eachother twice in a season, once at home and once away, for a total of 38 games per club. A win is rewarded with 3 points, a draw with 1 point and a loss with 0 points
At the end of the season, the champions are the team with most points. If this fails to decide the matter, goal difference and then the number of goals scored throughout the season will be the deciding factor. The bottom 3 teams will be relegated to the Championship League, and replaced by the top two teams from this league, and the winner of the play-offs from the Championship.
So far, the Premier League has been contested by a total of 40 clubs, since it started in 1992. Only seven clubs have been members of the Premier League ever since it started: Arsenal FC, Aston Villa, Chelsea FC, Everton FC, Liverpool FC, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

- Great Lens !
Just wanted to say I have a new Portsmouth FC fan site (a base for the new Pompey fan forum really), nothing much to shout about yet but only just started. There wasn't really a decent place for us to chat before so hopefully this will grow.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

- I LOVE European football! I lived in Germany for 3 1/2 yrs, and the level of play is just so far beyond anything in the US...makes for some totally crazy matches. Thanks for this lens! You wouldn't happen to know how one can score tickets to a Premiership game w/o being a club member?!

- Hi Ron.
YouTube Vids added. To be honest the selection was a bit weak if you ask me - but then there's loads of great vids on the club lenses.
