Network Marketing - Smart Choice for Extra Money in Today's Recession
If this strikes a cord, then network marketing may be the smart choice for you. Finding the best home business for your lifestyle is important and your research can begin right here.
This lens will give you some important tips to narrowing down the huge assortment of business opportunities out there. Once you've narrowed the field to two or three strong contenders, then you can start researching the right sponsor to work with.
What is the Best Network Marketing Business for Your Lifestyle?
The Blueprint You Need to Succeed
Most home businesses are designed so that you make money by selling a product or service. What makes network marketing (MLM) businesses different from a franchise or mom-and-pop type brick & mortar stores is that you can also make residual income by leveraging the efforts of your team (sometimes called a downline). The power of network marketing is team building. Here are 7 Tips to finding what works for you, your lifestyle, your comfort zone and works within your budget and time constraints.
1. First things first: Is the product or service something that you love? Would you buy these products or services yourself - from someone else? If it's not something that you love & would be willing to spend money on over & over again, why would you expect someone else purchase them from you?
2. Is the product or service consumable? Can it be completely used up in a fairly short period of time? This makes your customers come back to you over and over again for more. They will look forward to hearing about new products, colors, fragrances, styles, etc. because they trust you and what you are selling them. Next, is the product affordable ... are the services reasonably priced? Do you really want to try and sell today's savvy and money-conscious consumers a product or service that costs 3 times as much as the leading retail competitor? If they can get the same thing cheaper at the mall, they are probably not going to buy it from you on a consistent basis. Today's consumer can Google every product under the sun in 10 seconds or less - so you have to know that what you offer is competitively priced. Is it something your customer will use up quickly? Look at it from a business stand-point, If it takes your customers 2 years to use up the product or service you sold them, it's going to be awhile before they come back to you for more. You will need a constant stream of new customers to make consistent money.
3. What's in it for you? Are you going to make any money selling the product? If you only make 20% to 30% profit per sale -- is your valuable time really worth the effort? Retailers mark their products up at least 100% (if not more). Shouldn't you be able to do the same? In other words, if you sell $100 in product, you should be keeping $50 of it (50% profit). If you sell $100 in product and you are only keeping $20 (20% profit) is that a good deal to you? Think about it - with the above example, you'd have to sell $250 at 20% profit to bring home the same amount of money as selling $100 at 50% profit. That's more time away from your family.
4. If you are looking at a network marketing or MLM company, do you understand the compensation plan? First of all -- can you even read it? If the darned thing requires a Ph.D. in Economics so your eyes don't glaze over trying to understand how it works, how are you going to answer questions asked by your potential business partners? Look for a business who's compensation plan is simple, effective, easy to understand & starts putting money in YOUR pocket in a reasonable period of time. They are out there - I know.
5. Is the business duplicatable? Can you easily hand this business to a new team member and help them start to make money tomorrow? Does the company offer flexible ways to market both online and offline? Is your sponsor able to provide you with 21st century tools & training so that YOU learn the business fast. Are the training resources such that they are available to YOUR team when you start team building? The key to duplication is being able to point your team to a training resource for everything they need to hit the ground running. Whether or not they take you up on the training is their business - but is it available? Is there a way to monetize your and your team's efforts so that money can be made from multiple streams of income while you are building? Building a business takes money as well as time. Do you know how to make money several different ways while you are building your business?
6. Is the company a "party plan" or direct sales company? Do you have to hold home parties (sometimes called classes, etc.) to make money? Home parties will generally take you away from your family 2-3 nights a week. Are home parties the only way to make money in the company? Are there other options for making money? Do you really want to ask your friends and family to have parties over and over and over again? If you enjoy having parties, then that won't be an issue - but be honest about what you really want to spend your time doing.
7. The final and most important point to ask yourself: Is this something you can have fun with? It's going to take at least 3-5 years to build your business to the point where (if you want) it will replace a current corporate income. If you find you aren't having fun or the products aren't something you want to represent for the next 20 years then you might want to keep searching.
The right home network marketing business for you is out there. With these tips in mind, it will be a lot easier for you to find the one just perfect for you and your lifestyle.
Finding the Right Network Marketing Company to Join is Only Half the Battle
The Next Critical Step is Finding the Right Sponsor (or Upline) to Help You Achieve Your Goals
Now you've found or narrowed down your list of network marketing companies you are considering. Or you have decided to join a different or new company. The most critical next step is finding the right person's team to join. Everyone is going to want you to join their team. Let's face it, they make a percentage for your efforts. But it's so important that you make the right choice for you.
You may consider joining under your next door neighbor or your cousin - but, is that the right decision? You should consider joining someone that can help you grow your business as quickly as possible - if your neighbor or cousin can't help you do that, then perhaps they aren't the best choice for the job.
Your sponsor should be someone that understands marketing and internet marketing - not just network marketing. One of the main reasons that so many people fail in network marketing is that they do not educate themselves in marketing.
Don't believe the hype that making money through network marketing is easy, fast & requires no time, effort or money. That's a lie. The person telling you that is either knowingly lying to you or they have had the wool pulled over their eyes too.
If the people you are talking to are telling you that - keep looking. Network marketing requires discipline, time, sweat and money. To be successful in network marketing also requires you to be "teachable."
Traditional & Out-Dated Methods of Network Marketing to Avoid
Using these methods to build your business will more likely lead to frustration than success
The following is a list of traditional, out-dated methods of network marketing business building that you should avoid at all costs. If you are considering signing up with someone that is telling you this is how you'll build a business on their team - I'd suggest you keep looking:1. Make a list of the first 100 people that you are going to tell about your new business opportunity
2. Buying leads and calling complete strangers on the phone
3. Handing out business cards to everyone within reach
4. Hanging up flyers in grocery stores, community centers, malls
5. Bringing your friends, family & complete strangers to opportunity meetings
6. Three way calls with your upline when someone with a pulse is on the phone
7. When in doubt, blurt it out
8. It's not selling - it's sharing
9. Joining networking groups locally
10. This product/service sells itself - you just have to show it to them
11. Your "why" just has to be strong enough and you'll succeed
12. You just have to do "more" of what you are doing to make it
13. All the training you need is provided by your company (I love this one)
14. All the tools you need are provided by your company (I love this one too)
15. STP! STP! STP! - Show The Product - Show the Plan - Stuff Thy Pockets
Seriously, I feel like I should get our my pom-poms when I see some of the traditional methods of building a business mentioned above. No wonder network marketing and MLM leave a bad taste in people's mouths if they've ever been a victim to any of the above.
