Has anyone else read How To Be Idle or How To Be Free, by Tom Hodgkinson? Would you like to put some of the ideas into practice?
Interested in meeting up with a view to ridding our lives of nasty, dreaded, pointless work? Then let's get together and share ideas, scheme, plan and plot a way to get off the work-mortgage-death cycle.
Visionary timewasters welcome. All Hail Robin Cooper! The rest of you trot back to your workstations-the boss is calling. In other words if the height of your ambition is to spend a few hours in the pub on the time you have off from work, this group isn't for you.
Membership is £2 per quarter.
Please Read Before You Join.
We welcome anyone who is a regular reader of The Idler and associated books and would like to put the ideas into practice.
Who should not join?
Those who do not have a serious desire to get to gether and create an idle life, those who are too stingy to contribute to the running costs, those who've never read The Idler, Tom Hodginson and other Idler related books. Halfwits that go about joining random meet up groups with no clue what they're about.
How does the RSVP system work?
Please only RSVP "yes" for events if you are sure you can attend. A "yes" RSVP should be treated like any other commitment you would make. If you told your friend you were going to meet them , you would let them know if something came up and you couldn't make it. Please provide the same courtesy to your friends here. It is very disappointing to attend an event that had a large number of "yes" RSVPs only to see a few actually show up! So please change your RSVP with as much notice if possible. Members who "no-show" on a "yes" rsvp more than 3 times will be kicked out as will people who fail to attend more than three consecutive meets.
Is there a fee to be part of the group?
Yes, we suggest £2 per quarter. Extra donations are welcome. All money raised will be spent on meet up fees and outings.
How do I get kicked out?
We understand that you have other commitments as well, but members who do not attend on any sort of regular basis are subject to removal as are members who do not visit the site in over 2 weeks. This indicates that you are not truly interested in the group, we want to ensure that the members we do have are truly involved. If you join when you have no knowledge of what the group is about you will be removed. If we take a dislike to you for any other reason you will be booted out.
